Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Just bought 18.476 gallons this morning and the trip meter said 367.6 miles, so that works out to just under 20mpg. Probably about 3/4 of those miles were highway. It usually gets somewhere between 19 and 21.
1986 Isuzu Trooper, 2.3l, 119k miles when acquired 3/1996, 231k at time of death 9/21/03. 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2-door 4x4, 4.0l, 5-speed, 85k miles when acquired 11/2003, 138k now.

I have no idea if the T/B spacer helps/hinders, it was installed by the previous owner. I have thought about pulling the chip, to see if there is a differance though. Just too lazy lately to pop the hood and undo the two clips. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" />

I get about 12 MPG with a 60/40 mix of highway/city miles. I have a k&n on custom piping, bored out throttle body, port matched manifolds, port and polish, 3-angle valve job, polished combustion chambers (i'm going down the line of where air goes, heh), highflow cat to a flowmaster. Countless other free and cheap mods.
Oh yeah, 93 cherokee with 31' swampers and 3.55's.

K&N intake, dynomax catback exhaust, jet stage 1 chip, no lift or bigger tires(beefiest michelens you can put on stock rim though if taht matters)
13-14 mpg with a major lead foot
before the chip, i would push 11 mpg, before the intake/chip, 15+....my conclusion is that because the intake takes in colder air, the engine will mix more fuel and air because the air can handle more fuel...equaling less mpg, if that makes any sense
the jet chip definatley helped, those chips learn your driving style and program the computer for best power/efficiency...i can romp on the gas 24/7 and still get decent gas mileage for some reason
bored throttle body coming in soon, that could change it yet again, who knows
