This weekend I got off road while hunting in a field soaked pretty well. I was only in about 2-3" deep mud when my Trooper got stuck...just 30 yards from the gravel road.
I had hubs locked and TOD going...but I wasn't getting ANY traction on either front tire. Note: tires are in excellent shaper- Dueler Revo's). My friend got out and watched and said that my fronts never turned. Is this normal with TOD...not to have any wheel rotation on the front when the backs are spinning.
After some rocking, I was able to floor it out of the field in reverse. I can't figure this out b/c I've been in much worse conditions and not experienced this. Any thoughts..?

John: I had same deal w/ my old ('01) trooper. IF you have heavy slipping from both rear tires, TOD seems to struggle. I got stuck at Uwharrie last spring. I had pulled down a steep pull out and could not backup in TOD. 4lo pulled me out w/ no problem. Since then, I never used TOD off road. On same trip Paisan ran every trail in TOD just to spite me.

Thanks Mark....if I shift it into 4 wheel hi without activating TOD, how much power/torque goes to the front wheels? Thanks.

HI JOhn you won,t have any pwr to the frt wheels if the Tod is not activated as bob stated , even though you have the frt hubs locked , all they are doing is locking the axles to the wheels , but the axel inter lock and the Tod has to send power to them from the signal from the trans fer case ,if everything is working correctly Tod on and in your case hubs locked, when the rear wheels start to spin it will automatically apply pwr to the frt in percentages UP TO 50 % of rear tire slip the more they spin the faster the frt will lock and apply pwr to the wheels untill the rears gain traction and then the frts start to slow down application, ,how ever like bob mentioned when you shift down into low range , it is now a mechanical lockup with the fronts turning the same speed as the rears with a 50/50 torque split , with lsd in the bacK and arb in the frt and in low range that thing should just about climb a tree JERRY
