This place has been quiet lately, so I figured I would add this post in for sh!ts and giggles...

1) 2000 4Runner Limited located 700 miles away. Black/tan, has locker, 14,000 miles! $24,000. Looks mint, Carfax looks fine, I would trust it. But it's more than I want to spend. At an auto broker.

2) 2000 Ltd located 120 miles away. Silver, has locker, 45k miles. At a GM dealership. (no certification) Favorite color. They want $21,900 but it's been there since October according to CarFax. But it's clear.

3) 1999 Ltd located 200 miles away. Black, locker, 50k. Can get it certified (at a Toyota dealership). BUT here's the weird part... it was sold at auction with 68 miles 5 months after it was imported. And it hasn't been entered into carfax in over a year for anything... from Carfax:



Thoughts? Just keepin' yall updated. I want to spend in the $20,000 neighborhood.

EDIT: They want $19,999 for the black '99.

According to that car fax it looks like #3 was imported from Canada. Hmmm. Wonder why they would do that?

Those prices seem a bit high, just going by our local used prices for the 2000 they are about 17 k here.

For a 4WD Limited? I looked on Autotrader and GetAuto.com for a 2000 Limited 4WD in California and they're about $2,000 more on average. If you've seen a 17,000 one let me know!

BTW, anyone know the differences between a US and CA 4Runner? I found that the CA ones had standard rear heaters and standard lockers (on Ltds). They also lack the "4WD" badge on the back. Did they come with block heaters or upgraded heaters?

The 2 I saw in the local paper (private sellers) were 17k and the other 19k, both did have 60k +/- miles on em so that could be a factor, but still very low miles, the 19k was the limited, I dont know what line the 17k was though. They both sold within a day. I agree on the autotrader prices, seems they are higher than any local seller asks from what I have seen.
I could not tell you on the CA vs US myself.

I think carfax is a waste of money also every vehicle I ever checked out with carfax that I know has some kind of body damage checks out as fine on carfax. I think it is just something made up so you feel better about buying a car that has damage. Darn sneaky advertizing. The ones that don't make it and end up on there had some kind of major crap happen and still could be tweaked.

Well I like it because I can find out where the vehicle lived before I buy it. I can call the local dealership up and get service records that way. But I agree, it's best to get a good look at the vehicle. Fortunately Toyota puts those little stickers on each panel and those I would assume are difficult to forge- they have the VIN on them and are useless if removed. So it's easy to tell if major work has been done. A bumper I don't care about; a hood and I'm going to take notice. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Not that I work for CarFax or anything. I agree that it's overpriced, but I think that it is more useful than you give it credit for. Ive been on the prowl too...those prices are right around what Ive been getting for 2000 4runners. E-Bay has a few every now and then for $18k. 1999's are where its at (if you can find one)...same truck but $2k cheaper.

I bought my 99 (55,000 miles on it) in Dec 2002 for $17,000 from a dealer in Lancaster PA (I drove from Iowa to get it). If you pay more than $16K or $17K now you are paying too much. Keep looking, and good luck.

Is temperature control only available in a limited?

Thats pretty much the only thing keeping me in one...
