BTW, anyone know the differences between a US and CA 4Runner? I found that the CA ones had standard rear heaters and standard lockers (on Ltds). They also lack the "4WD" badge on the back. Did they come with block heaters or upgraded heaters?

Thanks a ton again,

Andrew

Andrew,

It's good to hear from you! Looking to get back into a Runner ehh? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Regarding the options. In CA 99-00 Limited 4Runners, the rear heater (Option code RH) and Locker (Option Code DL)were listed as options and not standard equipment. During my search back in 99, all of the LTD models did come with rear heater, however only a few had the locker.
My local dealer had one with everything I wanted with the exception of the locker and of course they were pushing me to do the deal on that one. My response was, "No locker, no deal!" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />
I specifically remember me calling around a bunch of dealers and no one had one with it. They finally found one at a dealer (4) hours away and they trucked it in.
Regarding the U.S vs CA difference, I would assume that they only difference was a CA Emmission, which happened to be listed as CA on the options list.
Sorry for rambling on.... and good luck on your search!

Is temperature control only available in a limited?

Thats pretty much the only thing keeping me in one...

Yes, the Climate control was only available on the 99 and up Limited models. Leather was also a standard option.

Forgot to answer this... the 4WD badge started in the 99 and up to 02. Obviously only on the 4WD models.

Howdy,

As far as I knew the rear heater was always standard on 4Runners in Canada. I've never seen one without it and I found a 1998 brochure that says it's common to all 4Runners.

(It was common to my 1999 and 2000.)

The Rear Differential Lock was standard on all Limiteds and available as a SR5 V6 Package. Again this is from a 1998 brochure and from what I've seen.

Perhaps these were options elsewhere in the Country but every 4Runner I've seen matched this pattern.

As a side note, I sometimes see people referring to 4Runners not being built in Japan. Is this the case with US 4Runners? I think all the 4Runners in Canada are built in Japan. (Or am I off my rocker and mis-reading all these posts on the web.)

Later,
Opitus

Howdy,

Oh yeah. I'm assuming by CA you are interested in Canadian not Californian.

Also Block Heaters were not standard in Canada. Although for many regions it would have to be considered standard.

Later,
Don

ps. It was -48 a few days ago. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hey guys,

CTapia- Thanks for your response... long time no talk! I responded to your PM, too. I guess I should have made it clearer- by CA I meant Canadian models, not California models. I'd never consider a California vehicle- it would have spent too much time with you nutty Californians, hehe. Sorry about that mix-up... I was so excited by my find that I wasn't thinking.

Don- Thanks for the information. You've confirmed what I thought was true, although I didn't know that the heater wasn't standard! I wonder how many dealerships would have put those on? Not that I will use it often... btw, how does the 4Runner work in colder weather? When I had my 4Runner I lived in Dallas. I doubt it ever saw below 30 F degrees. It saw 105 F quite a bit, though!

4Run4Christ: Yours is an SR5. Unfortunately, Limiteds command about a $3000 minimum premium. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I'm hoping not to pay more than $21,000 for mine. You got a pretty good deal, though! I'm also looking for slightly lower mileage than yours. Thanks for the response, though.

6 months ago, I considered buying a '97 limited 4x4 (77k miles) at the local Toy dealer for 15,000, until I heard of someone buying the exact same 'Runner (tan 72K, not green 77K), at a Buick dealer in Tampa for 10,900.

I have seen 99's for as little as 15-17K since then at dealers... Wonder what the private sellers are fetching?

All three of those have salvage titles. Better price, sure, but I think I'll avoid them. Thank you for looking, though.

Just to restate, my requirements are as follows: Preferably 2000 model, preferably certified, must be under or at 50,000 miles. No green (that's what my 00 was!). According to Kelly Blue Book, those go for $23,500. I'm not opposed to buying from an individual seller, but I also don't want to sell my Jeep on my own- I simply don't have the time or $$ to have two vehicles or be without one. I think $20,000 would be a fair price for the silver 00 w/45k that I found here. I should get 18 for my Jeep.
