Land Cruiser vs. Sequoia #383869 01/20/04 05:05 PM

any ideas why the land cruiser costs so much more than the sequoia? folks at the dealer say that it is much more capable off-road, but there has got to be more. plus, the 4runner is much more capable off-road than the land cruiser, so why the high price?

Look in detail at the way the LC is built - it's much more durable than either the 4Runner or Sequoia. What makes you think that the 4Runner is more capable off road than the Cruiser?

what is more durable about it? they use many of the same parts including, and most importantly, the engine. is there more quality put into the interior or the drive train?

i do not want to get into a 4runner vs. land cruiser debate. the reason that i said that the 4runner was a better off-road vehicle was because - toyota markets the 4runner as their most capable off-road vehicle, it has better water fording capabilities, a tighter turning radius, better angles of approach (same departure angles), a shorter wheel base, but less ground clearance.

i am sure that you could debate me on each one of those issues, maybe jeep will "trail rate" the two for us . what i am really looking for, however, is justification for spending the extra $ on a cruiser. it is my wife's dream vehicle, i would be very happy with a new runner though. once again, would love to hear from you.

Gonzo,
The LC is the only big SUV engineered to last forever. To quote my Toyota mechanic, "You can't kill'em". I own a 4Runner and love it, but I do go to the dealer and pretend I am in the market for a Cruiser and test drive them all the time (I think they are on to me). The LC is that much better than a 4Runner! There are so many intangibles to The LC that the 4Runner does not have. Just my 2 cents.

I just got my wife a 00 4 runner limited 4x4, now that I have done some more research I think I am going to go ahead with a 99-01 Land Cruiser! I think they are awesome..When my dad was stationed in Cairo, Egypt, there were 12 vehicles assigned to my dads m1a1 taft(technical field assistance team)and one of them that we had was a 80's Land Cruiser and it was pretty cool..The 90's models were very popular over there.

I drove a customers sequoia yesterday and wasnt very impressed...seemed like a blown up 4 runner..dont get me wrong it was very nice but just wasnt my taste...

Go for the big bucks and by an LC, those things rock! Oh, another truck that's reliable would be a 80s toyota pickup. We've got an 82 and that truck doesn't wanna quit. We haven't put any real work into it for at least 5 years and heck, I learned standard on it.

One major diference is in the front IFS system...

The LC has a much stronger IFS, the axles are 30 spline, not the weak 27 spline offered in the other trucks.

Also, the CVs themselves are much larger and therefore stronger.

The front ring gear is also larger, 8" vs 7.5.....

I don't think anyone that has LC would ever say, Gee I paid too much go buy a Sequoia. LC could be a better serious off roader, I wouldnÆt know, but I did rent LC when I was in Australia for a week, and while I did consider it to be a good Car (Sorry I mean a SUV), for some reason it gave me a very bad lower back pain (yes I did try to adjust everything that was adjustable!), very bad memory!

I now own a 2003 sequoia, I am not much of an off roader, and I did own a Isuzu rodeo before that, Sequoia can handle Ice and Snow rather well, it has plenty of room for four of me (I am 6' 8") and my wife and we are divers(cold water) so it can carry all of our crap, I have driven it for long trips + 8 hours and was very comfortable and No pain!

Most people I know the only off roading they do is getting in and out of their driveway for average daily use and some long trips, going camping or skiing and à I do consider Sequoia a great car (I mean SUV) at a very good price.

By the way before I bought Sequoia I did test drive almost every SUV in the Market (except Ford, Cadillac, and LC), Ford is boycotted and the others were out of my price range, but the only Cars that I did fit in was without a doubt Toyota Sequoia, Even the head rest fits me.

Sorry the Honor of Sequoia was in jeopardy I had to come and defend it!

Cheers

my friend, I'm from Venezuela, so I'll claim some authority to say what I'm about to say: Toyota Land Cruiser wins hands down!
Not to put down the 4Runner, but it is nothing more than a "pretty SUV" built for the city. Let me put it in caps: "PRETTY SUV" BUILT FOR THE CITY perhaps why the quote "it has better water fording capabilities, a tighter turning radius, better angles of approach (same departure angles), a shorter wheel base, but less ground clearance."
I know this is pushing it, but I'll rather have a LC than a Hummer
With that said
