Well.. I have a 03 Taco with the TRD and it DOES have power windows, locks, alarm (no start though), CD/Tape/AMFM radio, locking diff, bilstien shocks, EXT PWR button... and of course the stickers.

So I think we are saying...

A TRD can still be bought today;
A SR5 can still be bought today;

To get the TRD package you have to buy the SR5 package, but, you can get a SR5 without the TRD package.

Is this correct? Or has someone bought something different?

Thats the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard.

Lockers make 4wheeling a whole lot more fun. You need them when you leave the bunny trails.

I'll bet a paycheck I can anywhere in my stock non-locker that your stock locker can go. I've been a numerous 3.0-3.5 trails and haven't had any problems yet. I've been on trails with guys that had TRD lockers and wondered why I could get through areas they had problems with.. Well.. it's not always the trucks.. Most of the time it comes down to driver experiance.
21 years of 4 wheel experiance will surely help over someone that just bought there truck last year..

If you were on my coast, I'd take that bet.

true it is all in the driver, but having lockers has taken my truck places it would never have gone stock.

Hill climbs in on moss-covered rocks and slick fire trails makes lockers mandatory.

4wd w/o rear locker = 2wd
4wd w/ locker = 3wd.

the trd package is worth the cost, just for the locker alone!- if you plan on adding an aftermarket rear locker down the road, then pass. if not-get the trd package!

Disagree. It is not ALL in the driver. Put a newbie in a rock-buggy and an experienced vet in a brand new Tacoma (NOT TRD, of course), and I guarantee you the newbie will go farther than the vet...

It's a combination of driver and vehicle. Experience will win out when the vehicles are the same or close...

I will put my 2 cents in. I have 4 wheeled since i was a kid. And the locker makes a big difference in a stock truck. When you dont have good articulation(stock truck) a locker can make the difference between baggin on your truck to get to the top or casually driving to get to the top.
