TRD package #384681 01/21/04 07:46 PM

I hear the TRD package only started with the 2000 models. What was it called before? SR5s? Also, what does the package include? I thought they had like a racing suspension but my toyota dealer tells me it's only 4 special shocks and a automatic locking rear differential. So If I buy a used one and the guy replaced the shocks with regular shocks, it's a stock truck asides of the diff? I thought there was more to it for the price tag.

yes. Your right about everything except(ended with the 2000 models). Bilstein shocks, and locking rear dif.(with a switch) PLUS. ....Stickers. Cant forget the stickers.
I think the sr5 had nicer seats, power windows, other accessories. All pretty much creature comforts. No locking dif. No bilsteins

I know Bilsteins are good shocks, but what about those Tokico shocks or something like that that come on the Double Cabs...who are they??????? Any good as compared to bilstein? why not just use Bill on there too?

HUH? SR5 and TRD are completely separate packages that do not overlap at all. TRD has nothing to do with interior or electronics, except the RR Diff Lock switch.

TRD, IIRC, started in '98 and is still available today. Consists of: sticker, diff lock, tires/wheels (which can also be ordered separately), Bilsteins/Tokico gas shocks.

TRD package was/is available 98'-04'. I have a 99'TRD.
The package consist's of larger sway bar, progressive coil sPrings, crappy bilstein/TRD shocks (not at all like aftermarket bilsteins)electric rear pushbutton locker. And neat TRD stickers.

If buying new..I'd pass on the TRD package. The TRD Bilstein shock are wimpy. Get the Bilstein aftermarket shocks and save. The locker rear...well..If you know how to 4wheel you shouldn't notice a difference. I don't have it and have never had any problem yet. Stickers. Here's a site to get any ones you want. The progessive springs are nice in the front especially if you add spacers for lift. Buying used.. I believe a TRD package adds about $300 in the blue book.
Opps.... The sticker site...can't forget about those stickers..

Thats the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard.

Lockers make 4wheeling a whole lot more fun. You need them when you leave the bunny trails.

I thought about Hiker's post, and being realistic, only about 1% of owners will ever leave the bunny trails - so the locker wouldn't be necessary for most owners
