I've heard that this was possible but I didn't think I did anything hard core enough to actually have it happen. Guess I was wrong. Must have been my recent trip to Sedona. Notice all the red dirt. Good thing I didn't go to Woodpecker with the Az boys.





Is right under the axle a typical spot for these to break?

Looks like it's a pretty easy part to replace. If anyone has any insight on tips or tricks, I'm all ears. Also, where would be a good place to go to pick up a replacement?

Can't tell for sure if the break is in the same place where mine broke since but I believe it is. There are pics on my site's write-up of the rubicon trip from 2 years ago. You can tell for yourself.

You can buy replacements at msrecycling.com, carpart.com or any local salvage yard that has a gen I v6.

Before you put the new one on, why not go ahead and re-inforce it using 1/4" plate over that flat section. It will only cost at most $50 to have the two done. And it's a probably cheaper than doing them once their on since welding upside down's gotta be tougher.

Yep, it ALWAYS breaks in the same spot. You should have both fishplated before you wheel again. It can be extremely expensive not to. Alot of people deny this happens, but plenty of guys that only do easy trail with mild tires have had the same thing happen. You are lucky it did not happen on a harder trail, as getting out can be impossible.

It looks like there was a crack above the break in the bottom of the arm... It has a bit of rust on in like it happend a while ago and it took a while for the arm to completly fail.

I haven't gotten to the point where I use the Raider more off-road than I do on-road, but fishplated my trailing arms while working on the rear suspension last Spring just in case I should ever get the urge to remove those sway bars.

Just to be clear, they break WITHOUT any mods or removing the swaybar.

Have you guys ever noticed that the frame above the rear wheels is fishplated?

Why is it called fishplate? Why not just reinforce plate?

Hey sparkem, you should swipe a set of trailing arms off of a junkyard truck, bring em over, and we will fishplate them all up.
