jcssurf,
I ran 31s with 4.56s and then went to 33s. There was a bit of a loss of power. Things were OK off road, but whenever I tried to climb very steep hills, the tire/gearing ratio gave me some headaches. Especially if I stalled out and had to restart on the hill.
With small 32s, the 4.56s will probably be just fine. I personally would rather run 4.88s for that set up, but if the 4.56 gears were cost effective, I wouldn't turn them down. It will be way better than 4.10s. One thing to consider is if you ever plan to upgrade to 33s or 35s later on, you may want to hold out for at least 4.88s so that you are only regearing once. If not, the 4.56s should do the trick for you.
Ed's 4Runner is still a project in progress. Right now, much of the drivetrain is finished, although a dual transcase is coming someday. Later, he'll work on adding a rear bumper, probably tire rack, and rock sliders. The rear tailgate is going to be ditched for something different as is the canopy, probably for a lighter Can-Back. Then there are plans to convert the interior for camping and storage. Oh ya, he also plans to add a huge auxilery tank under the truck also. I'm sure there's more plans that I forgot and probably don't even know about.
mainer,
He's not sure what kind of mileage he's getting. He runs biodiesel which he stores in his garage and just adds to his fuel tank as needed. If it's anything like the overseas diesels of the same type (not computer controlled) he's probably getting at least 25-30 mpg, possibly more.
