My thinking was to find one of the early chevy small block diesels that Oldsmobile put out in the 70s and 80s.

Should be able to use Adv Adaptors kit to install it in the truck, and if not, then it can't be that hard to fab.

End Result: Space compact, but powerful.

Those Olds Diesels were not the greatest -- probably the biggest single reason that we do not see more diesels other than in fullsize pickups over here. The engine was a converted gas engine and had some pretty horrible issues with it.

When GM went to the 6.2 & 6.5 diesels, everyone still seems to think that they are related to the 5.7. The 6.x engines are fairly decent, but the big issue for a swap would be weight.

NOOOO!!!

do not buy a 5.7L(350) GM diesel. one of the worst engines ever made. ask anyone who has ever owned one, (my dad) you cant keep head gaskets on the engine, not to mention everything else. everyone my dad talked to said the same thing, they were just plauged with problems and everyone just swapped them out for gas V8's.

the 6.5's are good engines but parts are rare and kinda pricey.

Roll Me Over
Great pics! Man I miss wheeling. All I need are bumpers, sliders, and a spare then I can go...

One thing for those interested in diesels to remember, turbos make a HUGE difference. I'm talking night and day. I have had 2 diesel benz's, turbo and non, the turbo added like 40hp.

Frank.

Eh? Rare? Any Chevy dealer can get you the parts and there are quite a few places online as well. The 6.6 Duramax has not been out that long. Supply channels have not dried up yet...
