Seriously now, would that mean that I have to remove the A/C rad. also??

No, you can remove the radiator without removing the AC condenser (that's the real name lol).

"I used the through-the-core mounting kit, it wasn't even really possible to do without removing the radiator"

Actualy, the fan manufacturer say that for serius offroading you SHOULD NOT use the through-the-core mounting you may damage the fins

Oh well, I've been using it and no leaks so far. Look at me, I'm flying in the face of manufacturer warnings! Heheh tempting fate <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I used a thru core mounting also .. and i've wheeled it very hard for couple of months now .. its still fine .. but the variable switch broke on me .. probably because its not water proof and my sportage gets really submerged .. good thing i got 3 way overide toggle switch .. auto(uses variable switch), off and on... so when my variable switch pooped out on me, it could have over heat but i switched it to <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />n" so it was ok .. now we gotta take the var switch off..

okay, I'm joining the party a little late here...
I skimmed through this thread and didn't see any mention of the Taurus fan (from a 90s 3.8 v-6 Taurus). These things are sweet! Two speeds, massive airflow, and very thin.
I have one on my 88 Trooper with an adjustable thermostatic switch (the kind with the little probe that goes into the upper rad. hose).
Initially, I had it wired up so that high speed was constantly hot. I now have it on low speed only, constantly hot, and it's working fine at keeping the engine cool, even in 100*+ Sacramento.
Ideally, I'd like to have both speeds available, depending on temperature, but I just haven't gotten around to figuring out the wiring of it.
As far as increased HP goes, well, I'm obviously not going to take my 88 Trooper to a dyno. But, the Taurus fan and a new exhaust system are the only performance upgrades I have and I pass plenty of 1G Troopers whenever I drive up into the Sierras. It used to be a struggle to keep it at 50-55 on some hills; now I can pretty much maintain 60-65.
here's a great thread on it.

Can you provide the diameter of that fan to see if it would fit over our radiators.

Certainly. I just measured mine.
The integral shroud is about 21" wide and 16" tall, with the actual fan diameter about 16", and the maximum thickness about 4 3/4".
Mine sits just slightly above the water pump pulley (where the stock fan was) due to clearances, but still stays within the radiator's dimensions. It doesn't quite reach the bottom of the radiator, which is better than hanging off.
Assuming it fits within your radiator's dimensions, the only "tricky" part is securing the shroud down so that it doesn't flap around. A little ingenuity and a couple trips to Home Depot will take care of that. I used a strip of 16" steel (Simpson Strong Tie...used for framing) to span the bottom of the radiator, secured to the holes the stock shroud screwed into, then secured the bottom of the Taurus fan's shroud to that.
It's a difficult area to photograph, but there's one on page 3 of my cheesy cardomain link in my signature.
oh, and here's a good link courtesy of the Mustang guys:

I'm ordering an electrical fan....
why because my fan clutch is worn not totally dead but not working well enough for pulling trails.

Electrical fan is better for water crossings(can wire it so you can shut it off) also it's cheaper!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

I went looking for just the fan clutch..nope gotta buy the entire thing <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> so I'll go cheaper and better!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

unfortunately, the variable switch did not last long and it shorted out, seems like it cannot withstand being submerged ...lol.. good thing i have an overide switch, so i just bypass the variable switch.
