Getting the Wheeling Fever
ok...so my runner doesnt have a window lock switch, and ive tried 2 different window up/down switches....doesnt matter. window still wont move. I put in a different window relay, didnt make a difference. put direct power at the plug in the back, and it works with 12v applied at the plug back there. I also can't get the "backdoor open" light to turn off. door closed, locked, and window up. just wont turn off. any ideas?

Trackdown the "door open" switch, should be on the right hand side while looking from inside. Im pretty sure its similar to a door pin switch. If this isnt closing then the light will stay on, and the window wont work. Another item that will keep the window from operating is the wiper. If its not in the full up position...no window action. Hows she running lately?

to add to the things Darin mentioned, one of the bolts that holds the hard top on also contacts a switch(so no window with top off) if this bolt is incorrect no worky. there should be a window lock switch(is there a hole?)also the relay for the rear window is behind the panel just behind the drivers seat infront of the cup holder thingy.
the backdoor light does not prohibit the window from going up, mine automatically locks the tailgate when the window goes up......Karl

yeah, the relay by the seatbelt is good, the wiper isn't moving, and the cover bolt is contacting the solenoid thing.
Darin: shes runnin aOK. not great, but alot better smile going to get an acurate mpg not that i dont have to drive around in 4hiand4lo anymore. Im tempted to put my OE cam back in there just for shits and giggles...see what happens. that will come later; right now my EMT school is handing me my ass, so all work and no play makes matt an emt in the 10 weeks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> but i will definitely try that door pin you're talkin about.

thanks for the help guys!

yyyes! backdoor light is off. now, the driver side lock cable...does that make sense? anyways it isn't pulling the lock mechanism very much...i took it out, tried cleaning it up, extending each end as much as possible many many times...coated the focker with oil...still wont do its job. I guess i just need another one. any guesses on how much those would cost? oh yeah..the window wont go up or down, still.
according to rb's website, these are the rule outs so far..
1. Fusible link blown
2. Circuit breaker OFF
3. Engine fuse blown
4. Power window/wiper relay faulty
5. Power window regulator switch faulty

7. Cover top switch faulty ('84-'89 only)
8. Ensure all bolts are installed ('84-'89 only)
Especially the driver's side "A" bolt, there is an interlock switch under it

10. Power window motor faulty
11. Rear wiper retraction detection switch faulty
12. Wiring or ground faulty

thats whats ok...this is what im not sure of, or the location of...
6. Back door control switch faulty
9. Door lock detection switch faulty

is the door pin i cleaned up, is that one of those?

Doh, read this earlier and meant to jump back on...sorry. Tell ya what Matt, I'll go out to the 4Runner and stick my fingers in all her holes till I find the switch that triggers the Door open light. I was guessing that it was a pin switch...since how else would the sucker be rigged up?
Back in a bit!

nono...i got the light to go out. its actually *inside* the driver side latch lock...my main concern now is the window not budging...i dont know where those couple of things that i listed are, to make sure those arent the problem..

Guess I shoulda waited longer...at least now I KNOW how that switch works! LOL

Ok, things to try...manually go out and make sure your wiper is as far as it will go counter clockwise. If the wiper aint there..then twist the nubbie like a hard nipple.
Next check that the electrical plug going to the wiper motor is connected good. Located right pillar as you are facing rear door. After that...I dont know what to suggest. Do you have power at the switch? Does it work with the key in the door? I ever mention how much I friggin hate electrical? BTW- congrats on the EMT classes. Hard work here will pay off for you.
