George-
You are right. Consistancy is an issue and being more consistant would alievate some of the confusion.
It is hard to explain how it works sometimes, but it does not really matter if our actions upset the crew.
To respond to your specific examples, the Valentine's Day thread was way OT. (Again, not flaming) The car video was a) 4 days behind the wave of it washing across the internet and it really had nothing to do with Isuzu 4x4 b) there were some non-friendly comments towards the mods (actually, that was one of the comments that got me to post this thread) The virus thread is one of those things that will come up and quickly fade. Not a lot of discussion happens, it disapears off of the radar. We will get it when we clean up. Jason's x-mas thread...well...it has been a while, but as a stab in the dark it was closed to prevent a rash or prevent setting the precident of allowing such a thread.
Sometimes things just slip through the cracks. As Randii said, we read more than the usual reader, but that does not mean we read every single word. I leave somethings knowing that when Randii or Jim get to it, they will deal with it as they please. Sometimes, it goes the other way. Please do not take this as grumpy moderaters acting at their whims.
Another thing is that sometimes things happen for reasons that are not public. The car video thread was a good example. It disapeared for more reasons than just being OT. It had become inappropriate and added nothing to Isuzu Talk.
Again, consistancy could be better, but from you guys (and gals) I ask you to remember that it is not a personal attack when something is moderated. We do not chase down members to make their lives miserable. Our actions, good or bad, are done with the intention of keeping this place clean and reasonably sane.
Another thing, us mods have discussed bringing back something we used to do. If a thread is moved or closed, then we will try and include a note saying why. Sometimes it happens, but more than often it does not. But, remember, some times the reasons are not to be aired publically. When that is the case, we will let you know.
Another response to a point waaaaay up in this thread. For sale posts are locked or moved by policy. If we leave them open, then they turn into discussion items. Again, this is a decision that was made in order to push things (and their discussion) into the For Sale forum. This also means that any For Sale item needs to be posted in that forum and then you can start a thread here with the proper link.
Finally, let me restate this. If you have ANY questions as to why something was done, ask us. We will talk about it. It makes it better for you to know, than for you to assume that it was done for some nefarious reason.
Thanks,
Michael
