I have a 98 Rodeo with the Auto Tranny.

For the last several months I have had a weird clicking sound coming from what appears to be the tranny and it has been getting worse lately it seems.

The sound used to only occur when the car was cold and it would click a few times before it was warmed up. A couple days ago it 'clicked' several times sequentially which was a little scary. Today, however, even after the vehicle warmed up, the clicking was happening every minute or so.

The click sounds exactly the same as the click that happens when in Park and you place your foot on the brake. (Maybe a switch that allows you to shift from park to a drive gear by telling the tranny you are pressing the brakes???) The click sounds alot like a switch I guess and is coming from below the gear selector lever.

It happens usually before the vehicle has warmed all the way up and seems to have a pattern to it. It seems to only do it when I off the gas. If I am driving along and lift off the gas I can almost count on about two seconds later for my tranny to click once or twice. But as I stated above it is now happening alot more even after the vehicle warmed up today.

Through all of this the transmission seems to shift perfectly normal. The cold may have something to do with it seeing how it became worse during the winter months. It doesnt seem to be a major transmission problem, but is a rather disheartening noise to keep hearing. Im thinking maybe its just a bad switch/sensor that can be easily replaced??? (cross my fingers)

Thanks In Advance For The Help!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />
