I have never bled rear brakes after a 3rd replacement. I always clamp the rubber line and do a quick gravity bleed after everything is put back together, works for me.

Unless they are rusted or super brittle (which I don't think would happen in only 15 years Well mines a 93 and I have had to splice brake lines because they rusted through already and my runner is only 11 years old. Hell the whole truck could rust out completely up here in less than 10 because of the salt they use in the winter.

If you don't want to have a big brake fluid mess take a pair of vise grips and clamp it on the rubber hose that goes to the rear brakes this will stop the dripping brake fluid from coming out that way you will have less of a mess to clean up. I would regard this as dangerous. Bruises the brake hoses. I went ahead awhile back and bought a vacuum line crimping plier that's a lot better than vise grips on the hoses. NAPA.

I would regard this as dangerous. Bruises the brake hoses. Yep!!!! And do not do it to S.S. braided lines either!!!!

What do you mean by gravity bleed?

Dribble. Using gravity. Kinda like my old dog. Slow but often effective, the weight of the fluid from the master pushes the fluid down by the wheel cylinders out. Sometimes doesn't quite do the job, often does.

...you do not want the axles to lay on the seals They won't lay on the seals. They'll rest on the metal part just inside the seals. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/rear_axle/wheel_bearing/old_seal.jpg)

Yea, I forget that there are harsher rust climates than southern california desert. We don't get much road salt rust around here.
