Im looking in to buying a chip for my rodeo. Has any one used the Jet chip is so how do they like it?

I havent bought it, but I thought I might. Here is what I found out, the Rear HP gains that they claim only come after, intake and exhaust changes as well.

This means that they claim an upgrade of 22 HP to the rear tires, but really you are only gaining something like 7, because the intake and exhaust will already give you something like 15 without the chip.

Whether or not loosing your car for three days and paying 300 dollars for it becomes the true question.

So far my impression of this is that unless you can change the overall horsepower of your car by 10% or more you can't really feel the difference.

I personally am not going to end up with a Jet Chip, but it might be worth it if you can get 22HP at the rear wheels.

In my opinion, you would be better off saving that money and putting that into a supercharger, at least they are available for your engine smile.

I don't know if this guy does Isuzu engines (I've got the 2.8 GM engine), but for $30 to $100 and getting the chip direct without have to send mine in (making it a 15 minute upgrade), it might be worth an e-mail. Maybe if there were a bunch of folks interested he might tool up for the Isuzu engines if he can't do it now.

Mine feels worth the $30 I spent for it, but I already had the exhaust upgrade.

I did the Jet reprogram about 3 years ago, and I feel it was a waste of $300. I felt almost no difference, and I was very disapointed with their lack of customer service. Oh, and you have to switch to high octane fuel. This gets pricey.

Go for it! Then let me know if it's worth it. Trooperdude didn't have the best results, but who knows.

I am thinking about it also for my 96 Trooper. I recently put a better flowing exhaust on and just this week added a cone filter.

I will run it for a while before deciding on the chip.

It makes sense that it will help, given vehicles are tuned in the expectation that they will be abused and neglected. So by altering the timing, fuel requirementes etc, there should be some HP to find.

But then My Trooper has 160,000 on it so if I start fiddling with the chip, it may get unreliable. That plus the increase in Gas prices for Premium has me on the fence.

I have to agree with Trooperdude. I got the chip about 2 years ago, did not notice a big difference, but then again I have not put it on a dyno to check out any horsepower gains. The best investment I made to feel a difference was to put on a new catalytic converter, Flowmaster 40 series muffler and increase the pipe to 2.25..Now there I felt a difference. I bout my cat and Flowmaster new at a place called NPS here in Salt Lake City for $45.00 for bothm new in the box. My new pipes cost $150.00 installed and they did a great job rebending the route out the back. If you get the chip, let us know how it comes out. Mine cost $300.00 and I have never heard of one for $30.00 to $50.00. Make sure it is real and not some knockoff..Good luck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

if you could invest money in having custom headers made and a custom exaust system all the way through you would feel quite a big jump in power.

I am sick and tired of these stock manifolds. If I had a good welder and a pipe bender I would take a shot at making custom headers.

Not to hijack the thread, but it's real...it's in...it works. He mostly does them for V8 GM's, but also does the 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6's as they are in a lot of Camaros, etc. I do have to say, if I'd spent $300 on it, I'd be disappointed, but the gains are well worth the $30.

My fairly non-scientific testing involves an uphill freeway on ramp. Prior to any mods, the best speed I could pull before merging was about 45 MPH. After the 2.25" exhaust, I could make 55 MPH, with the addition of the chip I can make 60 MPH. Not exactly performance numbers to worry anyone (other than can I get out of their way in time <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />), but at least not quite as embarrassing! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

well thanks for the info on the chip. I would like to see if I could find some one out in vegas that could make me some custom headers.
