You guys are great, sharing all this information. This is stuff I could never find anywhere else. Honestly, this post is for anyone wanting to talk about diesels. People have a tendancy to talk more when there is an active post, so please feel free to write.
Interesting, I was wondering about the Borg-Warner transmission thing....so maybe it wasn't available in US then. If that's the case, it makes my bell housing more rare than I though. I am looking for another one (why, I have no idea) but don't expexct to find one. Advertising is free, so why not? Odd that the smaller market in Canada ends up with something like this.
Sounds like the intercooler is more work than it's worth at this point. Just getting the turbo on and working could be fun in itself, and to complicate matters, this is my daily driver so time is limited. We have a car too, but do you think the wife would be willing to give it up for a few days?
Indeed, ONE hp makes a difference when you don't have many. When you're on the highway going uphill, speed limit is 110 km/h, and you have your foot planted on the floor in 4th going 70km/h, ANYTHING is a help. Loaded tractor-trailers are passing you. And you have nothing in the box of your truck. And there is no headwind. 4-way flashers have to come on by law at 70. Really, it's that slow. I'm sure in non-North American countries it's more tolerable, but most people here don't like it. I say don't tailgate me, just push !! Secondary highways aren't so bad.
I found the weight of my truck on the internet to be around 3000lbs, so it is kinda heavy. I wonder if the Pup is lighter? I know the father-in-law's is, because half of it rusted off. Opening the engine hood is difficult because it wants to fall apart. Oh well.

JLemond:
Will your manifold fit my engine? Either I find a manifold somewhere, or I make one. I'll bet the turbo I have has a different mounting flange than the Isuzu. Minor detail.
You have much knowledge of Isuzu diesels. Small diesels never were too popular here, with the exception of VW. Now the rage is 300hp pick-ups. Great, if you need to haul a million pounds. I understand their mileage isn't so great either. It makes sense as you can't get power from nothing. Lots of guys have them and don't haul much of anything. To each his own. I just want a bit more not-slowing-to-a-crawl power.

Maybe some day I'll buy that Mercedes engine and stuff it into a ¢ ton ....
