Looked at the S10 diesel this morning, and I've seen worse. Frame is starting to rust through at the back, back of front fenders, and no doubt the cab mounts are toast. Snow is about 1 to 2 feet deep around the truck so it's hard to look under. 467 000 kms on the clock. Ya, that's all. Yikes. Glow plugs don't work, guy claims a local shop did somethig to them when repairing bad tail light. He has no reason to lie to me, so I accept this. I say this because he is an older gentleman and isn't all anxious about selling it. He's getting rid of it because he knows it will sit there and rot to nothing before he'd think of doing anthing with it. Says he put a NEW gas tank on shortly before parking it for good, plus 1 new strap, another new one in the garage. New vacuum pump (remember they are separate on this, unlike the Pup) and it looks it, injectors rebuilt not long before sitting, and they too look to have been off. Exhaust isn't too old, and is quiet. Tires still ¢ life left, 3/4 tank of fuel still in it. Alternator siezed, belt off. The radiator even looks good. Tried to start it strictly off jumper cables, but that didn't work as I expected. So we take a battery out of a car he hasn't been driving, hook it up. He had the truck plugged in for a few hours. No functioning glow plugs to use, around freezing temps plus annoying breeze, truck has been sitting for 14 months and never started, turn the key, and it finally fires up after about ONE SECOND of winding it over, and sits there and idles like it was started every day. It was cold too, cause I felt it before he started it. No smoke. Nothing. Just sits there and idles smoothly. It sounded tighter than my own engine. Guess I'll be buying this one. I'm guessing a rebuild for mine will shoot a large hole in $1000 so this is a cheaper way out for now, as then I can rebuild the other one when $$$ and time permit. Can anyone give me some idea what these cost to rebuild? $455 gives me bearings, rings, seals, & gaskets, but no pistons, wrist pins, clips, etc. Do these have replaceable sleeves, or do you bore these? Pistons usually go too? Valves? Never had to take this one apart, so I can only guess.
That's all for now.

PS Oh yea, I didn't make him an offer just yet. He can't get the truck out of the concrete snow anyway so I'm safe for a bit. Don't want to look TOO anxious, now do I. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
