Ed Billeci (tan diesel 4Runner) and I went on an all day run in the Tillamook OHV area on Sunday sponsered by the
Oregon BushHacker's Club Here's just a few pics. Nothing special. Unfortunately all the cool "tires in the air" and "cross up" shots are on everyone's digital and video cameras except mine. I did get some decent shots of some Jeeps and other rigs that I'll post on my website later (maybe tonight) and I'll post a link here. BTW, the BushHacker guys that were leading and organizing our trail run group were awesome. We had a few non-locked and rear only locked guys that a few problems and they were quite friendly, patient and helpful and were not all stuck up like you might except some hardcore off roaders to be. I watched them talk an IFS 4Runners with no lift and no lockers get through stuff that the fully locked Jeeps were having trouble with. It was pretty impressive. (Gas tank is a little low on those 4Runners. )

I learned two things on this trip. I need diff protectors and bud built crossmember. And I definately need lower T=case gearing. My next major project for sure.

I like that snorkel. If that's your rig, do you get frequently asked what "that thing" is by other drivers?

I got tired of people going "is that your exhaust?" when I had a snorkel. Yes people, it's my exhaust. Facing FORWARD. Made out of plastic. Dumping in front of my face.

The best had to be when I got asked what it was by the guy in the lane next to me. I somehow managed to reply with a straight face "It's a bird catcher"... and the light turned green before he could request clarification.

Ha! No, most people figure out what it is. I do get asked if I drive in water that deep a lot. Which, obviously, I don't. I have it mainly to keep water out in the event I nose into a puddle or water that is deeper than I expected.

I would have gone with the conventional ARB snorkel set up, but my spotlight prevented it from fitting, so I bought an ARB snorkle head and built a custom shorty version. So far it works great. I haven't really gone in any deep water yet. I figure at this point I still have to worry about sending the fan through the radiator.

Sounds like you had fun..

Did that 4runner in the pics went home with running board in one piece?

I'm plan on getting Budbuilt too but not sure if I should go ahead and get dual case one or single case one....

Those are actually nerf bars. He bypassed some stuff, but did surpisingly well on a lot of stuff. Basicly no lift, 32" mud tires and no lockers. Just a lot of very good driving. He did hang up on the gas tank a few times.
