I was checking my coil packs tonight on my 95 T 100 and I got .4 Ohms on all three packs for the primary resistance and 13 K Ohms for the secondary resistance on all three packs. The secondary is right within spec of 9.5-16 K Ohms but the primary spec is .67-1.05 Ohms. I will have the dealer check them on Friday when I bring it in to have the valves adjusted. It seems peculiar that they are all low and the same resistance. Has anyone had to replace these packs due to low primary resistance? I understand these can be pricey, what can I expect to pay?

Anything less than 1 Ohm is pretty low - try calibrating your meter with a known electronics grade resistor from Radio Shack. Its hard to measure difference between 0.7 and 0.4 Ohms.

I have a 1995 T-100 X cab 4x4 and I had a coil pack go bad once and the symptoms that I had was almost like the same symptoms as a bad spark plug. I know the coil packs are different and not cheap either. I think I paid about $ 85.00 for the bad one. I would replace all wires and plugs first and go from there. My truck started out missing and running rough at first and it was intermitting. It got worst and the engine light would come on also. I hope this helps I do have a chiltons manual but I have not seen the troubleshooting part on the coil pack.

I haven't noticed any misfires or rough running. I just think the truck is a little more lethargic than it was a last year at this time. I did check the plugs which were installed about 14,000 miles ago. They were all good. I did replace the plug wires about a month and a half ago. The truck seemed to gain some power but only for a few days and then it seemed like it lost it again. Maybe it is just me.

I agree with jmoser. Unless you have a commercial grade digital meter low resistances are very hard to read. As long as you are not showing a direct short (0 ohms) then you are probably OK. You might try clipping on and then heating the pack with a hair dryer. If it is an intermittent short the heat may cause it to show up.

FWIW, I replaced all my packs, plugs and loom (all oem) at 140K miles. Noticed a big improvement in pep. That is until they started selling that methanol-blend of gas...blech!

(bet you some instituion gets a grant to study that road rage is at its peak during winter traffic congestion and may be related to exhaust fumes from methanol fuels!)

How much did that set you back, I mean money-wise, what should someone expect to spend either having it done or doing it themselves?

Don't know offhand (no access to receipts at work), but I did order from Carroll (toyota parts source). Let me check this evening...
