Hi there from Canada. I have a 99 Rodeo 4x4 3.2L with 99,000km. I had a check engine light come on and had it scanned for codes. It came up with P0102(Mass airflow sensor), P0171(system to lean bank 1), P0174 (system to lean bank 2) and P0303 (cylinder #3 misfire). Vehicle was running ok for a bit then started acting like it was surging during an idle(tach needle would fluctuate up and down), engine was running a bit rough,stall out every so often and would use more gas than normal.I have replace the MAS and have put in new plugs. Still have a misfire problem. Have also checked to see if intake is leaking. Doesnt appear to be. I live an hour away from the nearest dealer. Has anyone else had this problem?

She's having similar problems.

My guess is Electrical (bad battery, or Altenator), plugs (what brand did you use) or the TPS is on the way out.

The surging, stalling and system lean bank codes make it sound as if your problem is a bad intake manifold gasket.

These plugs don't work well in Isuzu's and have been noted to cause CEL.

I think your statement that Bosch Platinum plugs cause CELs on Isuzus needs to be clarified a bit. Bosch Platinum plugs are known to cause problems on Isuzus that have the Ion Sensing ignition. Not sure if '99 Rodeos have this ignition or not, if not these plugs shouldn't cause a CEL.

I had the same EXACT problems with the same codes comming up. It was the intake manifold gasket. You will have to replace both sides. If you are good with a wrench you can probably do it yourself, but i'm sure that is what it is. When i had that problem we tried and tried to narrow it down by detecting a leak, but it never worked. Lukally a friend of mine is a mechanic and he garonteed me that is what it was. he was right, when we got done replaceing them the truck ran like new.

My bet is on the intake manifold gaskets.

I have heard that alot of people say that it is the intake gaskets and i have heard people say that they have changed them and they still had the same problem so i am not sure. I have put on the new Mass airflow sensor and that has helped some. The engine seems to run better(no surging) other than the idle seems to be too high now and i get a jerking(bang) when it shifts when i slow down to 40km's or from stop to acceleration at 40km's.Maybe TPS? Engine still has a bit of a miss. I have found that the air temp sensor has a peice broken off the bottom so that may also be the problem. It's cheap so that is what i will try next. If this doesnt work then i guess i will have to try the intake and hope for the best. Ill keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the input. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
