Actually, stock tires for the V6 are 235s. No biggie. Who's gonna put those on their truck anyways? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Good job!
Excellent information.
I think the tires will rub on the 33" unless the rear offset is 3.75 or larger, or the lift is more than 2"

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I saw that the diagram had 31x10.5 R15 tires shown on 15x7 wheels, but not on 15x8 wheels. What changes by using 15x8 wheels with these tires?

With these diagrams, the tires fit with stock suspension and not rub, or is there a lift involved.

New to Monteros, so just starting the learning curve. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

The diagram was intending to show tire/rim combinations that kept the critical inner sidewall at a consistant distance.

On the Gen 1's (pre 1992? North America), those combinations probably will not rub. I know from my truck the 31" set up works on an unlifted truck with unmodified suspension. Most with 33's have already modifed their trucks for better off-road clearance, so can't answer that one on a stock truck.

31x10.5's (any 10.5 wide tire) on an 8" rim will leave you more sensitive to tire sidewall pinching on the rim, and rim damage on rocks. You want sidewall "bulge" off-road.

Any tire greater than 29" will rub the front bumper end-caps. You will need to slice it back a bit, as it intrudes into the wheel well a bit too far.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
After that response, I am not sure what wheel width and tire combination to pick. I hadn't thought of it previously, but I was using 15x7 wheels on my Tacoma with the 31x10.5 tires. Those worked well. Since this is going to be a daily driver for my wife, I am thinking the 31's will be just fine and not need to leave room for bigger tires by buying wider wheels.

So much to consider. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I currently run 31s on stock Montero rims and have never had any rubbing issues, even with major flex on the trail. At present there are no modifications (body-lift, suspension lift, wheelwell alteration) on my rig which could affect their ability to fit. While this will all change very soon (doing a 2" body-lift in a couple of weeks), however, at the moment 31's fit just fine. They can be a little sluggish to push with a 2.6L engine on the highway at high altitude (my house is at 6300' alt), so keep that in mind if you live up in the Olympics or the Cascades.

I'd recommend Big-O XT's. They're a nicely aggressive tire, yet they ride great on the highway, and they carry an uncondition warranty for the life of the tire. I've blown a sidewall on one on the trail and they swapped it out with a new one, no questions asked.

Where do you live anyway, whirlibird? I went to high school in Shelton.

...ummmm.

You are aware that all rim widths are available in a range of offset/backspacing?
