 Frozen parking brake

Hello gang...
I am stuck at home this morning... No, not ice or snow, but my parking brake is frozen... I twisted the handle and there is NO resistance. Looking under the troop, the cable has a lot of slack in it up to the point where it connects to the rear cables. I yanked, sprayed penetrating oil on it, and nothing.
Any ideas on how to free it up (Short of laying underneath with a hair dryer)?

When it happened on mine, I left the engine on while I went inside to change into some "work" clothes. The heat of the exhaust melted the ice just about the time I came out the door. Unfortunately the Trooper was at the top of a slope and my daughter's F-250 was at the bottom of the slope, but that is a campfire story.
I think that if you BLOCK your wheels and let the truck run for a bit the problem will resolve itself.

Thanks for the reply! I left the truck running for about a half hour. When I came back out to get in, I fooled with the E-brake... Yanking it, and letting it off... Over and over...
I think that may be some of the problem with my trooper... The calipers may not be opening all the way, which may suggest a fix for my no power problem...

if it's not ice, you can go back to the calipers and take some chanel locks and see if you can move the spring by hand.
(i'm assuming these are rear disk...if not, i've never seen the drum setup so i'm not sure if this applies)

The parking brake on the 4wheel disk brake isuzus is a drum brake.
The rear rotors have small drums inside them that contains the parking brake setup.
The parking brake is the exact same as any typical drum brake but on a smaller scale.
So your caliper would not be the problem unless your brake fluid is frozen in the line or something crazy like that. I dont even know if brake fluid is freezable.

The parking brake on the 4wheel disk brake isuzus is a drum brake.Not on first generation Troopers. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> The early 12-bolt axles have a lever activated parking brake. It was not until 93 or so, did they go to the later setup. Michael
