That is a 3.0 unless I am mistaken. The 3.0 is the 6g72 and the 3.5 is the 6g73.
RPW told me that the 3.5 bolts right up to the 3.0 tranny, bellhousing paterns were exact acording to them.
Here is the problem that I see. Doesnt out tranny interface with ECU? Because in order to run the 3.5 you need the 3.5 ecu. Will this cause the tranny to screw up? I have no idea personally.
It would give you extra power, but honestly we dont need power, we need better gearing. LOW gearing. Yes there are lower gears available, but our lower gear sets put us only slightly above what alot of rigs come stock with. Also our trannies have pretty weak first gears in comparison to other makes out there.
I've been curious about the 6G74 swap and according to information I've found on
3si.org, the 6G72 to 6G74 swap has been done. As a matter of fact, someone there has built a 4.1L monster motor. Back on track here, they claim the engine will bolt right up to the tranny in the 3000GT and the 94-95 3.5L block will bolt on all the existing accessories.
As far as the tranny is concerned, best I can tell is that the auto tranny behind the 3.0 is not electronically controlled. Besides, it appears the tranny controls for the 3.5 are separate from the engine controls. I'll research this further to verify, unless someone else already knows.
I'm getting more convinced this would be a very doable swap. After I fix a blown head gasket, I may investigate this as a potential replacement engine!
