OK, I have something strange going on.
On my Rodeo my battery light and brake lights are intermittently and randomly flashing/flickering, but together(does that make sense?).
EDIT<It is RPM, at about 2K the lights (both voltage & brake) start to flicker, at about 2.6K they are on constant.>EDIT
The lights (batt & brake) flash/flicker but it seams to only happen when I am accelerating, and maybe in a certain RPM range.
EDIT<I checked the voltage at battery, 12.2V engine off, 14.2V engine at idle>EDIT
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Does this even make sense to anyone?

HELP

It sounds like your alternator is trying to tell you "Replace me!!"

Its your alternator. In a short amount of time your radio will start cutting out followed by your dash (tach & speedo) and headlights. Exact same thing happened to me a while back

Rodeo Problems

i had it rebuilt for $35 - good luck

since everyone else is saying alternator...I'm going to say voltage regulator...but I'm not an electrical engineer so don't take my word for it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

for sure it is the alternator, or wires connecting to it. When my harmonic balancer went out i had to take the belt off because the pulleys were not lining up. So i had to keep charging my battery for about a week.

The idiot lights would be on, but when i hit the freeway, upon accelerating the lights would blink. check your voltage, it should be low or going down.

how long has it been doing this?? your battery cannot last very long

It may not be the alternator... but most likely is.
My Stylus does the exact same thing and I have replaced the alternator, with a factory unit.
Mine seems to happen mostly when the outside fans kick on. as soon as the shut off, the lights go out... I've also noticed the do it at high RPM hard accelerations.
I think I had a bad ground or something, somewhere.
It has not affected the running or drivability of the car, so I haven't looked any further... maybe one day I will.

I thought it was the alt, but something I forget to say is that I checked the voltage at the battery, 12.2V with engine off, and 14.2V with engine on at idle.

I also noticed that it is RPM sensitive. At about 2K the lights (both voltage & brake) will start to flicker, and around 2.6K they are on constant. If it was the alt, why does the brake light come on? I was thinking maybe the voltage reg is going out, and over driving (V too high) at the higher RPMs.

Is this possible??? I will have to get my wife to rev the engine while I am looking at the voltage.

Roll Me Over
Someone posted here within the last few months with a problem of his alternator working at idle but not at higher RPMs. Sorry I can't remember much more about it than that.
