Just got the truck back after having the head replaced. Found the surging to be a small crack betweent he valves on cylinder 3. Now it runs great. Except when I first go to start it in the morning. It doesnt go to high idle. As soon as I let go of the key it dies. If it put my foot on the gas and hold the idle up for about 20 seconds it runs fine. Once its warmed up its fine for the rest of the day.
Any ideas? I swear I read something just like this somewehere but I cant seem to find it no matter how much I search.

Any ideas? I swear I read something just like this somewehere but I cant seem to find it no matter how much I search. they obviously did not connect something. go searching for a wire or hose that is not connected. you already knew that though and probably did that. a bunch of those hoses and wires are all related to idle. just because a wire looks like it is hooked up, it may not be. my brother's had a CEL for P0340 - cam position sensor. it turned out that they must have undone the connection in front of the timing belt cover to armor all the engine plastic stuff and did not fully put it together when they were done. it looked like it was together, but when i pushed it finally clicked into place. CEL went away. saved us $200 because the dealer thought the cam position sensor was bad. it would be pretty damn hard for one of those to fail.

as far as we can tell, everything is connected. I am not getting any codes. After digging through alldata and a chiltons book I am looking at the throttle positioner. If I remove the vac line from it I get a good start with normal high idle. Anyone have good vac routing diagrams? I cant seem to get a good diagram of where that line should go.
The dealership didnt instill much confidence as far as vac lines go. I still have the esc1 mounted up front but not connected. The decided to run a line for it and pulled off a plug on the throttle body and connected it there. That was the first thing I put back to normal.

I actually just verified it with a friend. I have a pic of it buts it huge. i didnt have a chance to resize it. picture1 and pic2 I guess at this point its time to look at the IAC and other things. I was really hoping it would be something unplugged or a vac hose issue. I really dont feel comfortable leaving my truck with the crooks a the dealership again.

pic1 will not open for me. pic2 does. where is your SC? open the pics in paint and draw an arrow to what you want to identify and then resave them. size is not an issue.
edit - got it to open by manually typing in link.
so, you want to know if that hose should go from the spot by the throttle body over to that blue thingy? i know, that was technical.
edit again - i opened up pic 2320 as well. it is T'ed and goes into that spot for the SC, correct? i am just trying to figure out what you are trying to verify. i have the 4runner at work now, but can took at my T100 in a few hours.

I already got a friend to verify all the vac routing. I was just trying to figure out if it was the throttle positioner that was having issues because if I disconnect the vac line to it the truck starts properly with a high idle.
I guess the question is, what sets the high idle when I go to start my truck first thing in the morning. Thats the only time it is having problems starting.
The supercharger is on a shelf in my garage. It is going to stay there for a bit as I cant afford the gas and also want to make sure all my issues are worked out. Sorry I didnt draw the arrows, but I already got my answers on that part. It sadly is not related to something as simple as vac routing.

91 was 2.25 as the gas station down the street yesterday. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
There is an idle up valve at the front of the engine. I though the book said it was the a/c idle up valve but I may have gotten confused. I was looking at too many things last night. I did connect up the OBDII and found no pending codes. I also check out the TPS through there and it looked good. Time to run to the airport. Will check on the idle up valve when I return.

That one at the front of the engine is the a/c idle up. Mine blew last summer but shot the idle up not down. It also did not produce a code on the OBD. In the process of figuring it out someone suggested I rap on the IAC gently to see if that affected idle at all on the premise that it can stick and a bit of tapping can be all it takes to free it up. It may have been a partial culprit but turned out to be ok. Have you tried that, and did it produce any effect?
What did you determine the line to the blue thingy to be?
