Ben,
I'm over in Troy and I'm sorry to say I don't know of any "public land" trails in the immediate area. Of course there are powerline trails here & there, but you're on your own there as far as trespassing is concerned. There is a trail I know of in the Lake George area and of course a couple famous ones in Western Mass. Shoot me an E-mail and let me know more details, like what you drive, experience, etc.
