Will someone add this to the archives...it's useful information that's asked for fairly frequently.

Let's keep it in discussion for a bit longer... I'm fairly certain these Aisin Seiko (I think) parts interchange with Toyota units, as well, which makes me think they might interchange with certain Jeep and/or Dodge units that use the same source for their tranny...

Took it in today,he said I need to loose 4 teeth. Its a 18 tooth now,Isuzu only makes a 16.So it looks like I need to install a conversion box for $115.00 He asked a good Q,how does the speedo gear ride on the tran gear since its different sizes?More teeth, bigger gear, how does it line up?
Do the new gears come with a offset housing?

HI TROY , NO THE GEARS CAN BE CHANGED BY ONE TOOTH , EITHER DIRECTION WITH NO PROBLEM, IF YOU HAD TO CHANGE MORE THAN THAT, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE DRIVE GEAR ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT ,, THE WAY THE GEARS ARE MARKED (SPEEDO GEAR) THEY WILL BE MARKED 5-16 6-18---5-17 THE SMALLER NO., BEING THE DRIVE GEAR NO,
BUT IN YOUR CASE I THINK YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE GEAR ADAPTER, THERE WAS A LONG TIME AGO A 15 TOOTH GEAR AVAILABLE BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK IN YOUR TRAN S ANYWAY IS THE REASON I DIDN,T LIST IT , HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT SOME IF I CAN HELP YOU ANY , LET ME KNOW , I HAVE PARTS BOOKS FROM2002 BACK TO 1981 ON ALL THE VEH.. TAKE CARE JERRY

Thats the answer I got so I think this is done, thanks.

Here lately I've been using my GPS in the Trooper to get my speed. When I'm showing 45 I'm actually going 54. I just need to carry a calculator and multiply whatever it reads by 1.2

I wish there was an easy way to fix it.

here is the original thread: resetting speedometer

so what is the formula for getting everything back to stock? output drive gear, speed-o gear, r&p, tire diameter - i guess all this needs to be known from the original set up to try and match their relation to one another.

how many different sized drive gears(output shaft) are there? just thinking that if required more substantial change than 1 tooth(speed-o gear) and ever doing/planning terra 3:1 gear change then the perfect combo can possibly be had and that would be the opportune time to do it.
