Need a Spot
Hey guys

Ive had this 1992 22re pickup for about six months now. When i bought it, the engine sounded great, but over the last little while, its started squeeling whenever its running. Usually only audible when idling, but it gets pretty loud sometimes.

Friend of mine said it might be belts squeeling, and a search of the forums here half suported and half contradicted that. Any ideas?

as a side note, no maint. records, so is there any scheduled maint reccomended for 100k miles? im just hitting 98k

thanks!

a bearing in a pully will do it and belts will too, maybe a water pump bearing if bad enough. did u spray silly con spray on it? try that..if it goes away its a belt

Body Damage is Cool
take the power steering belt off and start the engine...see if the noise is still there.

if the noise is gone, it is probably either the belt or the bearing in the idler pulley ($9 and 20 minutes to fix) or possibly the bearing in the pump itself. turn both pulleys by hand and see if they spin easily.

if the noise is not gone, take off the fan belt and start the engine. again, see if the noise is gone. if it is, you found the problem.

My money is on the P/S idler bearing. If you have A/C it has an idler too.

thanks alot guys! Unfortunately, belts and bearings are staying right where they are till the snow stops falling here smile

The truck itself, on the other hand, is going out for a romp in the cold!
