Need a Spot
Hi everyone,
Well, I've been reading the board for a couple of months now and decided to make my introduction, thanks to joe and harry for helping me regester, ya'll were right it was my aol filter, i turned it off...

My first truck was a 1990 single cab 5spd. 4x with the 3.0 v6... awesome truck, about two years later I hit some black ice, went off road and rolled it 3 times wile living in Colorado. I then drove a '93 Nissan sentra around for a wile until i could afford another pickup.
which brings me to my current truck, a 1988 x-cab sr5 4x4 with the 22-re. i got it for $1400 with 220k mi., in colorado.the previous owner said it had a rebuilt motor w/ 60k on it and thought the head gasket was going. it was running pretty rough...so after getting the truck i did some light tuning to it...new plugs (they were pretty bad), adjusted timing, adjusted valves (way off) and changed the oil, soon after, I drove to Houston and a week later I melted a valve and blew the engine.
anyway's i just dropped a new 22-re in it and have done a couple of mod's...back up lights mod, body work (bondo'ed rusted bed), removed mud flaps, rear bumper and front valance, custom grill and switched battery and air box (and a bunch of other lil' things)

OK, stuff i need advice on~~
the truck is running ok right now but im pretty sure its not running at its peek. i think this because of a couple of reasons,
(1) it idles high when cold, 1200rps
(2) it idles rough (not extremely bad but def. rougher that it should)
(3) it idles low after driving~like in stop-and-go it will drop to 600rpm's for a bought 30 sec. whenever i come to a light
(4) Its week!...i know, its a 22re yada yada...but im pretty sure it should have a lil more than this....

I also have an exhaust leek (near the end of the manifold) how much is this affecting my lack of power and would it be affecting anything else (harmful)?
ill check for a vacuum leak this weekend and go price a new o2 sensor mine is probably bad since I was running with a bad head gasket for who knows how long and burning antifreeze..?.?
And as soon as I get some money im going thorly chrome (ceramic is twice the price) tri-y's to a high flow cat, 2.25 (?) to a dynoflow and 2.25 out...something like that.
-By the way im running just a muf. where my cat should be, I cut it out b/c it was clogged and probably the biggest factor on my valve melting.
Is the air intake mod and no cat and short pipes enough of a change in flow that I need to adjust the dial in the AFM? what a bought when I put the exhaust on? If so how do you know when its right...im not really sure how that works, it seams to me that that is doing the job the o2 sensor ... Regulating air/fuel ratio(sp?)....
My cruse control also does not work, it will turn on but not engage, where to start, Vacume?
I also have some pic's of my battery/air intake switch that ill try to post soon to have ya'll check out

ok guys that's enough for now, thanks for all your help and i look forward to talking with everyone

-Corey

did you have the engine put in by a shop? if you did i would take it back and scream at them.. if they didn't and you did, then play around with her and twick her.

the high idle is normal when cold, i've seen mine idle as high as 2300, but those are on the coldest of days(-50 or colder). the rough idle might be caused from the exhaust leak. im not sure what the deal is with the drop in idle when the engine is free to idle, but mine does it too, but it bounces right back to 750. i think its my intake or something, either way, it shouldn't hurt anything

check your TPS (throttle sensor)
check the connector on the AMF (air flow meter)
did you have the injectors cleaned and rebuilt at the time of your new motor?
How many miles do you have on your new motor?
I have about 4,000 on mine and it has started to have more power. but it has always ran very smooth.
