Static shock all the time #409874 03/01/04 09:50 PM

Does anyone else get a serious static shock every time they get out the truck? I literally cringe every time I get out of the truck and reach to push the door closed. As soon as i touch the metal on the door, I get a killer static shock and can't figure what's causing it!

I've had that since day 1.
I have rubber floor mats and cloth seats. I just spray downey on the seats every once in a while.
Funny but I don't get zapped when I'm wearing Doc Martins.

Touch the metal first and remain in contact with it, then put your foot down on the ground. What I like to do is let the calf of my leg slide on the door sill until my foot hits the ground. Works everytime.

If you have to ask about a SAS, you're not ready for it.

Static build-up is much worse in winter because humidity is much lower than other times of year. When you slide acroos the seat exiting the vehicle it's like charging a capacitor. When you touch something you're discharging the cap. Keep your hand on the door or something like suggested above or get some of those straps that bolt-on underneath and touch the ground when you stop.

How quickly static is dissipated to the ground is also a function of the tires. What tires do you have?

I've experienced that static with both my stock tires and MT/R's, but it's not too bad for me. I'm sure other tires are worse.

You can also buy anti static spray.

Science in action. Didn't you ever scruff your feet on the carpet as a kid and zap your siblings? Static.

As suggested, can spray down with fabric softener, and always grab the door frame when you get out to ground yourself.

MythBusters did a show earlier this winter about whether or not cell phones were the cause of fires at gas stations. The myth was busted. Turned out they were able to ignite fuel vapors by rubbing a piece of cloth on some seat fabric.
