4 wires coming out of the thing, which ones go where if I want to bench test it? Came out of an 89 4Runner if it matters. Thanks smile

I think it would just be easier to pop the heat control cover off and plug it in. Turn the key...if she lighs up, main functions work. Turn on your headlights, if the numbers dim then thats working too. Quicker than jumper wires in my opinion. But can look it up for you if you want.

It's easy

one is ground
one is 12v continius
one is 12v accesories
one is 12v from your lights(when you open lights the clock fade a little bit)

I just did mine

There isn't any real tearing apart of the dash, and it should only take you less than a minute to get to the stock wiring harness. All you need to do, is remove the 4 hvac knobs, then take a thin tipped standard screw driver(ice pick will work too) an insert it at he corner or one edge of the hvac panel and it should pop right off. The wiring harness is attatched to the back of the clock knockout plate and pops right off. If the clock works the whole installation should take you less than five minutes. If you don't want to try this, you could call the dealership and ask the parts counter if they can test the clock. If they can/will, it should be free of charge.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Ever pulled your ashtray? 3 screws and the bracket comes off. Can grab the clock pigtail through there if you dont want to pull off the 4 heat lever knobbers then the faceplate. Hell I wouldnt consider it tearing apart the dash, not even any screws involved in the heater cover removal. But if you really want to know which prong on the back of the clock is what...then I suppose I can tear my dash apart to document which color wire goes to which terminal on the clock. To me it sure seems alot simpler to just have you plug it into your exiting factory wiring for testing purposes. Hell, and think of it this way...if it works mount it right there and then and be done with it. . No way for anyone to tell what each individual connection is what without having to tear into theirs themselves. Should take you all of 10 minutes to do.
Not trying to sound like a dick about it, but if you look at it from a different point of you...its even easier than changing spark plugs. This much I can tell you, green is from the dashlight circuit, it dims the display when the lights are turned on. Brown is the ground wire.

Go ask the pirates, they'll know.
I use a $2.99 wallymart clock, so can't help unless
I go look in the FSM. It is snowing here now, so you'll
have to do that yourself.
I used the clock circut for my arb switches. Really handy connector - it has one of
everything (not much power available - good for switching relays though)
Like others have said, the easiest thing is to just plug your clock into the factory wiring connector.

here it is,,,,
green is tail ligt which dims the clock at night

black with white stripe is ground

red with green stripe is switched hot that lights up display

and black with white stripe is continious hot that keeps time.

hope these match the other side of the connector,,,,but look at it this way,,,,,you have 3 hots and 1 ground,,,,,with all 3 hooked up you should have a dim display,,,,find the one that undims it then the other 2 only keep time or light up display...........no problem.

Hehe, but the thing we are all missing here is that the clock aint got no markings or color coding on the backside of it. Just a recessed area with 4 pins for the harness to connect to. In order to ID each pin in the clock, somebody is gonna have to go outside in the cold, pull their heater plate, pull the clock and compare the harness plug to the clock pins to determine which is witch. (nice use of words huh?) Or! DRM can go out and do the same thing, except plug his clock in. Seems like it might be the shortest route to me. Hell, my clocks are already installed.
