Just a quick story about a stupid guy:
It happened to a woman I worked with a few years ago.
Her boyfriend was installing a new windshield in her car. This dude (not the sharpest tool in the shed) is working in his garage on a cold winter day in NH. So, he figures he'll start the car and let the heater warm the interior of the car while the engine warms up the garage a bit. The idea is to keep things warm while he installs the new windshield. About 3 AM the girlfriend hears the car running and wonders why he ain't in bed yet ("yeah babe, I'll just be down here a few more minutes") so she checks on him. The idiot had all the garage doors and windows closed, and had the car running She found him passed out and slumped over the center console of the car. He survived, but it took close to 3 months to recover from the carbon monoxide poisoning! He spent over a week in the hospital.

So be careful putting that new windshield in, people get hurt doing that!!

Dont some insurance policies have a $0 deductable for glass? Or is it just the winshield. My parents have a explorer sportrac and the power rear window comes in very. handy, kinda like the 4runners are.

Window arrived is perfect condition. Everything was packed neatly and secure. Looks like pretty good instructions as well. I think the hardest part will be running the wires to dash but shouldnt be a big deal. Should get a chance to install this weekend.

How hard is it to install? Can any average Joe install it?

Before this, I had never replaced a window and I had no problems at all. Your hardest part is removing the old window but they give good direction on how to do that. You will need a partner for this part but just to hold the window so it doesnt fall. I had the whole thing done in three hours and that included running the wires and hiding them. No soldering and all wires are color coded for easy plug ins. Anyone interested, I would be happy to send pics.

Mike,

Where did you place the control button?

I put mine just to the right of the hazard button. I had any empty space there. It will also easily go to the right of the two 12v outlets, there are two empty switch spots there as well. Switch isnt very big so it was pretty easy to pick a spot for it.

Any pictures to share with us? How close is the match of the tint on the glass to the factory sliding window? What about the frame of the window, does is it have a factory look?

That is the real neat thing. According to some people in the business, The factory manual slider windows that come with Toyota's are made my C.R. Lawrence which is who makes this power window. Frame looks the same. Factory tint looks same and the stock gasket works perfectly. I will take some pics at sunlight tommorow and try to post them here.
