Definately not Bosch for the toyotas. Its been my experience that they were the wrong plug for my motor. I used ac delco rapid fire plugs and seems to be good. However there has been some good threads on plugs in the 4runner board. I think the conclusion was NGK but don't know which one.

I have a 94 4runner with the 3.0 V6, manual trans, 31s with 4:56 gears and auto hubs. I get 15-16 MPG at 75-80 on long trips with cruise control set. That is right about what my truck got brand new in 93 with stock 31's and 4.88 gearing. I think that is just normal. Those guys and gals only getting 10 mpg are the ones that need to tune up IMHO.

You can't go wrong with Denso or NGK plugs and Toyota OEM plug wires. And I would not consider your mileage bad at all. It seems pretty damn good at the speeds you travel at. Slow down if you want to save gas, seriously.

I average 16.5 MPG in the hills where I live and 17.5 out on the highway at 60-65 MPH. I wouldn't expect your mileage to be much better than what your seeing at 75-80 MPH. Your R's are way up there and as a result your mileage, in a word, sucks . If you spend a lot of $$ on mods and still go 75-80 I would expect you might get as much as 1-4 MPG more and maybe worse mileage depending on the mods . You will have more power though . Personally, I wouldn't have very high expectations for the ability to increase your mileage by very much. Have a Toyota 4X4, pre Tacoma, and you can expect high teens to low twenties downhill with a tailwind.

What's wrong with that mileage? You're talking about a 4400# + truck here, an auto, small (and very innefficient) V6...
I had an ex-GF w/ a 4Runner identical to yours. Best mileage EVER was 18-19 hwy, cruise set @ 65 or so. Heck, my Taco gets about that, my wheeling truck about that... I think you're doing well.
Brian K. Gallus I have nothing important to say.
