Recently drove a 5 hour drive
I made it in 4 16 mpg ALL on highway, with a mountain pass and doing 80-90 on the highway.....which was slightly hilly

My rodeo is getting like 13-15 ever since I put on the 33's ... Remember that your ODometer is off by the same amount as your SPEEDometer with the larger diameter tires. Apply that same correction % to the miles before you do the calculation and it might not be quite as bad as you think! Jay

I get about 15-16 on the road and about 21-22 on the highway (some freak Rodeo I guess). But keep in mind I still have the stock pizza cutter tires on, and in winter with that oxeginated crap I get about 15/18

I get a pretty solid 16-17mpg from a 2.8L, automatic in mixed driving. I have a heavy foot. (adjusted for tire size increase)
Jill's got an 87 XJ with auto trans and 4.0L , with me driving it gets about 18-19mpg. (also adjusted for tire size increase) I don't know what mileage it gets with her driving, as she never keeps track of that.

Yeah, I take that into consideration, although now that the 265's are getting pretty worn, my calculations are even more off...I figure I get about 275 miles on a tank(pre adjustment) times that by about 7% for the difference in tires and that is what I work with for my mpg.

I should have been more clear. Obviously, since I was talking mileage per the sticker, I meant on a stock Isuzu as well.
MPG at higher speeds and with lifts, bigger tires, etc all affect it.
But a brand new, stock, Jeep cheroke doing highway runs to and from the airport (3 hours round trip) at 60 mph and it's only getting 13.....I'd be upset if my sticker was that far off.
Thanks for the feeback and for noting when you had mods when reporting mileage.

My rodeo is getting like 13-15 ever since I put on the 33's I suspect it will only get worse when I go to 35s. I used to get about the 16 that Jonesy claims when I was on 265s. Actually, until you regear, bigger tires save MPG.....

sorry thats just not true, bigger tires = more weight more weight = more hp to turn, more hp to turn means push harder on gas pedal, push harder on gas pedal means worse MPG. At freeway speeds the MPG may SLIGHTLY improve with bigger tires but very minimally at best. Lower gearing helps put you back into your powerband to be able to use less pedal to get where you need to go.

I'll second that. Bigger tires = more mass to turn.
It also equals a larger frontal profile, which means more wind resistance, which is your #1 source of gas-scucking power. Wind resistance is calculated off your front 2-D profile * velocity cubed.
