I did it with mine in a 97 4Runner. It is pretty straight forward. I pulled the panel off under the steering wheel and used a test lamp to find a wire that was ignition hot. You can also use the ignition hot wire from your stereo. Then you just use the pieces that they included with the unit. I ran my telephone wire under the plastic on the pillar and then across above the sunvisor to the radar detector. It was all really straight forward and now it looks really nice.

Let me know what else you need to know.

I'm assuming your doing a visor mount scheme. On my '97, I probed around the sunroof switches thinking I could find an ignition hot wire. No luck. Very perplexing. Anyway, plan B. I probed a group of wires coming out the top of the windshield pillar and found what I needed. I tapped into that and tucked the wire in the headliner trim over to about mid visor. I then needed somewhere for a ground and ended up pulling off the pillar trim (the grab handle took an impact driver to loosen the screws). I used a ring tongue connector on a grab handle screw for the ground.

Not sure what type of overhead console light setup is in your 4runner, but on my 2000, with sunroof, there is a keyed power wire to lights in the overhead console. I wasn't worried about a hot wire without the key on since your'e not moving anyway without the key. Also no fear of killing the battery this way. Probe aroud with a test light under the overhead console. I then led the wire out a small hole in the front of it.
