Detroit Electrac? #412314 03/05/04 07:58 AM

Does anyone out there know the story regarding applications or fitment charts for the Detroit Electrac? I seem to have run into a bit of a brick wall as far as what diffs this locker is going to work on. Especially regarding Isuzu reare-ends specifically. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanx-

If the Electrac is available for your standard D44, the those with 1st gen Isuzu D44's should be able to get the one thats available for the 3.54 and down gearset and use any set of stock isuzu gears. If you're upgrading gears and going with an aftermarket gearset, then you will need the 4.10 and up carrier. those with the 2nd gen isuzu d44 may have a bit more of a problem as there have been some possible oddities talked about with those lately, i won't hazard a guess there.

disclaimer, no first had knowledge here, just speaking off the way i understand things.

They have them for any Dana 44, and for dana 60s as well. Pretty much there are two dana 44s, 3.73 and down carrier and 3.73 and up carriers. Isuzu dana 44 rear ends are funky in that they have a 4.10 or 4.30 gear in a 3.73 and down carrier. So if you ever plan on doing the gears as well. You better do the gears and the locker at the same time.

As for the electrac, you may wanna be careful, call up tractech before you buy and make sure that they have sorted out their problems first.

Someone got the electrac in his rodeo...i'm not positive but I think it might be MattGold, I don't think hes active anymore though. So yes its possible, you just gotta do what RobG said. Rob is always right

I think I would like the electrac for the front because it is a good lsd when unlocked, so if you are going through a difficult section that needs precise steering, but still an open front won't quite get yah there- that sounds like the way to go to me. Of course, it is not available for isuzu front ends.

Thanx Fellas! I have a 96 with the 4.10-geared D44 rear-end, and am extremely interested in the Electrac as an option to the mega$$$-ARB. Kobyhud-Which problems are you referring to? Is Tracktech suffering some kind of problem with the product?

Have you seen how much the Electrac costs? About the same as an ARB from the couple of places I've seen offering it.

Go to indy4x.com and go to the FAQ section and they list the various axles and applications.

Amen here.

ARB's cost less, but you have to factor in a compressor. Since I'm getting a compressor for something like $40 from a kind soul at work, two ARB's work out to be less than two Electracs.

The debate here, IMHO, is if one is better than the other. I like ARB's proven reliability, but the air line thing somewhat scares me. I'm just planning on running really really good lines in very protected, not-kinked places. But the fact that you electrically fail a Detroit and then just "bolt in" your locking status is kinda cool...

Yep, when you factor in the cost of compressor, if you are getting just one, it is slightly cheaper. And I'm very happy with my lockright in the rear, if I get to the point that I think it is too weak or I actually break it, I will probably get a detriot or upgrade to dana60 or something.

One extra plus, is the cool little button with the lightning on it. And when you press it, it is totally silent while locking in. Arb makes a little whirrr, tips people off. Hahahaha, that is such a dumb reason.
