I checked the spare instrument cluster I have, which came from a 1995 auto and they are just bulbs. They are the same type my old 96 Camry used. They come with the little twist in plastic piece attached. I found out after buying them at the dealer, NAPA had them too for 1/2 the price. Just remove the instrument panel and it is an easy job.

Emailed you a pict of panel front and back along with one of the bulbs out. If someone can post, I can send them.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
GaryM,

Looking at the pics you sent me it looks like the bulbs you are referencing are for the lower warning lights (like oil pressure, emergency brakes, etc). The Speedo has 6 range indicator lights that seem to be located on the back of cluster pic where there are 6 screws (beneath and inbetween the wires coming out of the box with 6 air holes).

Maybe if you look a little deeper we can "uncover" the the L.E.D.'s??

Thanks,
Candido

You are right. I appologize to the you and the board for jumping the gun. So here is what you do:
1. Once you get the panel out, you need to remove the front cover. The 4 top black clips hold it on. Stick a flat blade screwdriver from the front into the slots and apply pressure up on the handle so it puts slight downward pressure on the black clips. Pull out slightly on the cover. Work your way through all 4 clips and then the cover will pull off.

2.Next remove 10 silver colored phillips head screws from the circuit board in the back behind the tach. 3 will be long ones, 1 short one, and the 6 on the PRND2L holes. You can now pull out the tach module.

3. Remove the 4 small nuts and lockwashers holding the tach meter to the tach board and pull the meter out. The bottom may be slightly stuck to the lens covers for the shift illuminators but it will come off.

4. Pull apart the 2 side tabs holding the black plastic PRDNL2 screw hole assembly to the back of the tach board and let it hang out of the way by the small wires. Then again from the back of the tach board compress the 2 plastic tabs on the white enclosure over the lamps and pull that cover off from the front to expose the LIGHT BULBS(not LEDs). Pull on the rubber part of the bulb, which is actually the bulb holder, and it will unplug from the 2 pins on the board. Straighten the legs(tiny wires) on the bulb and it will pull out of that rubber holder....presto. Then go and try to find a replacement. No soldering, and very few tools needed.Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to get to the bulbs.
Again, sorry for jumping to conclusions the first time

GaryM's the man.

Just goes to show that you can ask all the questions at the dealership you want but you better check here before expending too much energy. Sorry for the LED Red Herring! Brew

Hey for all I know, and that isn't a lot sometimes, your 98 may have LEDs. Who knows what upgrades they did. I just have a 97 manual and that 95 panel to look at.
