Getting the Wheeling Fever
I know this has been posted before, but I can't find it. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to repair / replace the Drive Range indicator lights on a auto tranny 95 T100?

Thanks,
Candido Garcia

Yeah, this has been brought up a few times. Not really worth the time/cash from what I remember. My drive indicator is on and off again. I am getting used to it. There is one advantage, and that is I'm in drive when the light goes out, so I really don't have to pay to much attention. Handy when trying to be stealthy

I just got mine done under Exxxxtended Warranty. It's integrated into a $400 assembly so I had considered trying to solder in a replacement LED on the circuit board. However, the mechanic at our Toyota dealership said it looked like a gauge failure to him . He felt the entire tach. pod had to be replaced, as itÆs also part of the greater assembly that was obviously failing! Even with a replacement, the D light is a lot darker than the rest. Next time, I'll do some bizarre LED solder-in and make it work RIGHT! Good Luck Brew

What stealership did you take it to Brew? I wonder if they would do the same for me. Did they replace for free? Is it a brand-new gauge pod?

Might be worth it to take mine in there as well. A replacement would have to be better than mine not to mention that perhaps I'd have actual orange needles on the guages.

Joel

You can't just pull out the instrument cluster and replace the bulbs individually? That's what I did with our Camry, except I had to do it twice because the first time I just replaced the burnt out bulb, then the next day another went out. So I pulled it again and replaced the rest of the bulbs. They were only $0.75 each or so. Piece of cake if it's anything like our Camry.

Joel,
I took it to Butler at 96th and Keystone just down from that familiar lightpole of yours. However I had purchased an extended warranty from Tom Wood(westside) back in late '99 that covered 7 years and 75,000. So with 2 seat belt assembly replacements and this tach pod, I'm just about even. Unless you too had such coverage, I doubt you will get it for free. However I am not the Great Carnack and it might be worth a try if you still have any available warranty left. Also the T-100 D-light is not a bulb from what I was told. It is an LED on a circuit board and is not as easy as "screw in a new one". The mechanic said I would have to desolder the old and resolder a new one if I didn't fry the printed-circuit board in the process. I wouldn't recommend soldering this sucker with a Radio Shack iron either. I was expecting to use a fairly stout component iron (20W min.) with multiple heat sinks on the leads if I even had that much lead-length to work with. If this turned out to be flush-mount/wave-soldered then I was going to have to get a lot more creative. Brew

p.s.- The mechanic said the only vehicles he sees with this D-light failure are T-100s and Camrys. Hummmmm

Thank you all for your input.

Looks like I'll be driving in "STEALTH-MODE".

If you notice, the D light is dimmer than the rest when the lights are on. Probably to cut down on night glare or somethingsince it is always on. Then it is normal without the lights on. I would bet all that board does is sense when the lights are on and change the D light emission level. I have a spare panel from a junkyard. I'll try to figure it out tonight.

Oh, so you had an actual warranty Scott. I thought you meant that you had convinced Toyota to take care of it because they ought to anyway. I won't bother since I don't have any warranties on mine. Besides, it is only muted when my lights are on. I call it the anti-glare feature, especially since I keep my dash lighting pretty low anyway.

Ugh, the lamp post... don't remind me. My wife still shudders when we drive by.
