Can anybody tell me where the trailer harness "module" is located on a 96 Runner? It's the stock hitch and harness.

Thanks in advance.

probably behind the drivers brake light assy. If not follow the wires from the connector near the hitch. It usually leads up behind the tail lights through a grommet in the body.

If a trailer harness has been installed at the port or dealer you will see the wire clearly under the truck leading to the trailer hitch. If you do not see one, you don't have one.

None of these were installed at the factory by Toyota. They were either installed at the port, or at the dealer, or not at all.

I can see the harness, I just can't find the "module" that converts it to a 4 wire system. The harness says "Toyota" on it, so I thought it was factory.

Need a Spot
I had to replace this module in my '97 I am not sure if your truck is identicle to mine but my 'module' was on the passenger side in the back. It would be right before that 'cubby hole'. I needed to remove that entire pannel which goes up and around the window. (well ok loosen it up)Don't forget to remove the panel on the floor first. I then took a puddy knife to remove it and bring it out before cutting the wires and splicing the new module in. Hopefully this might help..

When I purchased Sherpa, I didn't think my module was working properly, so they replaced it with what was apparently a better module. I thought the mechanic replaced the module from inside the back on the driver's side.

Does this module allow for electric brakes?
