I went to the junkyard today to check out the '95 SR rear axle Mitch mentioned in this thread. I'm a little bit confused. The plate in the engine compartment (which is on the radiator support on a Gen I) seems to indicate the axle ratio is 4.636:1. This makes no sense for a couple of reasons: 1) I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention having this ratio. 2) I can't come up with a ring/pinion gear teeth count that would make this possible. On my Gen I, the ring gear has 37 teeth and the pinion has 8. 37/8= 4.625 The numbers on the plate I'm referring to are listed after the transmission model number. On my Gen I it lists for 'Trans Axle' V5MT1 and then 4625 (no decimal, but that's gotta refer to the ring/pinion ratio).

I didn't get the axle due to the ratios being different (I also wasn't in the mood for rolling around on my back in the dirt). Can anyone shed some light on this mystery??

TIA,

-Jim
