Have you relaced your Clutch Bracket Hanger? #418571 03/16/04 08:20 AM

This problem seems to be a common one. I just bought a 95 with 76k on it a month ago and in short order the shifting got really bad, particularly into 1st, and then the cruise control stopped working. Thanks to this forum though I knew where to look and sure enough, there was a cracked bracket. What I'd like to know is: how many of you have made this repair and have you had any continuing/lingering problems afterword? Thanks in advance.

I think everyone here that has a 5 speed has made the repair. The new one (new and improved) has not failed on mine and from the looks of the construction of the new bracket it probably will not.

Get under there with a flashlight and press on the pedal. Watch the area of the bracket where the firewall plate is tack welded to the parts that come up to the pivot point. In that junction you will probably find a small crack. It will get worse with time. I thought I didn't have a problem until I did a real close inspection.

Replaced mine in 2001.

No problems since.

The new bracket (black) is of a stronger material and gusseted I think. It's been so long...

Did mine about a year and a half ago. I didn't think mine was cracked either, as it functioned reasonably well. You have to look pretty close to see the crack(s) with the piece installed, but are very obvious when you get the bracket out. I put the new bracket in, as well as the reinforcement that installs between the clutch master cylinder and the firewall. Don't forget to do the little plastic pivot bushings and the plastic spring seat bushing at the same time. WOW what a difference! I realized that before it felt like I was breaking something each time I depressed the clutch pedal. I guess I was. No problems with the new pieces. They ran me about $60 total. I have pics of the old and the new. PM me or email me (joshfelt11@hotmail.com) if you'd like to see them.

Body Damage is Cool
About 3000 miles out of warranty; it took out the clutch too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

The thing to watch for is a crack in the firewall. The local dealer had to weld mine. They split the labor and parts cost with me 50/50.
