Rich Mountain Road near Ellijay, GA is currently closed and is undergoing an evaluation by the Forest Service on what to do with it. An environmental assessment has been completed, and along with other background info is available for download at:

http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/sopa/misc-nepa.htm

Or, for a direct link to download the 134 page .pdf file, here ya go:

In response to this, Southern Jeeps is organizing a rally to hand deliver hundreds of letters to the Forest Service to let them know the position of OHV owners.

Mark this date on your calendar: Saturday - April 3, 2004

The Rich Mountain Rally hopes to recruit 500 4X4 Off-Road vehicles to convoy from Atlanta to the North Ga. Mountains.

Visit the website www.southernjeeps.org/richmt/index.php for the details and to SIGN UP for the rally.

Very interesting. The Southern Jeeps sign up link didn't work, I think this should do it...

Update:

Another trail is lost. This time it will be completely closed to vehicle traffic.

Find info here:

http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/sopa/misc-nepa.htm

We tried. I went to the rally back in April, and there were about 116 vehicles that delivered close to 300 letters to the Forest Service office in Blue Ridge, GA. It was very cool to see the convey of off roaders joining together to let our voice be heard, but I am disappointed with the results. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
