Does anyone know of an on-line source that would show isometric illustrations of all components in the engine compartment as well as
the name and purpose of each? I hate guessing about what I'm looking at and the Haynes Manuals with their arrows (pointing in the general direction of where a component is supposed to be) drives me nuts. Are the Chilten Manuals more specific or should I be looking for an Isuzu technical manual? There's a bunch of stuff in there that must serve a purpose and I have no idea what it is.

Welcome!!!
General under-hood components tend to look similar across vehicle manufacturers. It sounds like you are just getting started. Here is my suggestion. Have a mechanically inclined friend or a real mechanic (they probably won't even charge you) do a quick verbal walk through of your major underhood items (these come to mind as "major" in my eyes: alternator, AC compressor if equipped, power steering pump, smog pump, block, head, valve cover, filter box, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, battery, distributor cap, spark plug wires, spark plugs, radiator, battery, coolant and wiper washer resivoirs [knowing the differnece is VERY important], and fuse box. Someone please chime in if I left anything relevant to a newsih gear head off of the list. Later you can find your charcoal canister, throttle position sensor, oil pressure switch/sensor, and the other 1000 little things you will need to tinker with over the years. It is hard for me to remember going through this process as it occured over years of looking over my dads/friends shoulder while they fiddled. Manuals are good, but a real person pointing to real things can't be beat when you are starting out. Good luck, let us know if you can help ID anything specific.

Thanks for the Helms lead, but it didn't pan out. I guess my truck is too
old.

And no, I'm not quite a newbie. Two clutches, three cylinder head rebuilds, drive shaft rebuild, countless brake pads, three exhaust systems, a starter and a fuel pump later I think my hands have earned the distinction of "Weekend Mechanic of Merit". The engine and drive system is easy 'cause like you said it's the same stuff in different shapes and sizes across all drive trains. My peeve is all the equipment attached to the fenderwalls and firewalls with wires and pneumatic tubing running every which way and absolutely no description of what it is or what function it's supposed to be performing. I mean I bought this baby new and it's got 405,000 miles on it. How much more time do I have to find out what everything does?

I found the 1989 Amigo, Trooper, and Pick Up Factory Shop Manuals there......... in stock. PM me if you require clarification. I have a 1990 Amigo/PU manual (s) with 2.6L MPFI info in it. I think I can scan them and email you. Just give me some time. Good luck. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hmmm, maybe I was hasty. I thought the P'up was a specific model but another site seems to lump the amigo, p'up and pick-up under one heading so I'm going to guess the engines are the same for each and only the body, frame and suspension differ? I'd hate to lay out a hundred bucks and find out I was wrong.
