96isuzoom, you hear anything on if/when emissions tests are going to reach allentown?

man they are already here, and i didnt hear they were starting this either, so now i got to pay the extra $38-60 bucks on top of getting inspected. we are lucky though, philly and pittsburgh are anywhere from $60 to $90, while penndot tries to put a cap on the costs. good to see another pa guy on here though maybe we can ride up to paragon once you get this rodeo.

cory

-one more thing, the new emmisions are for only cars 95 and older, just vehicles with computers, so your older cars may not have to pass. just something to look into.
hope this helps

I have a 96 LS with the 5spd MUA so no auto tranny experience, but I love my truck. Yep, it's hydraulic lifters will tap after about 3,000 miles since the last oil change - 5w30 Mobil1 and a new filter clears it right up for me. Other problems I've had are the driver's side rear door lock - prone to beaking and then you can't open the door; and auto windows - I've had to replace two of these motors.

That's it - not bad for an 8 year old vehicle!

The rest is SOLID!! Good power, great looking (IMO) very capable wheeler stock - and even better when lifted 6-7" with 33s and lockers!

Another benefit (to you) - Isuzu has pretty low resale values. IMO you get one hell of truck for very little money - compared to say a similar year 4Runner.

Best regards,

Jim - ZU'tah Wheeler

Low re-sale value is the main reason the g/f and I are looking at another Isuzu. Seems the majority in the northeast aren't interested in them. I sort of am kicking myself over the Stupid Duty because at a stealership up the road was a 98 Amigo for half of what I bought the truck for and with less miles. To bad Isuzu doesn't make a full-size, as a contractor I need this thing to pretty much get paid.

As far as PA emissions, my mechanic has to attend a Pike county-wide meeting on Fri. From what he gathers its going to be about PAs emmissions plan for the next 8-10 years adn how it will affect pre-1991 vehicles w/ or w/o ECUs or FI. Hope fully the carb'ed vehicle standards won't be stringent so my barely legal 86 can keep on trucking. 300k on body and tranny/case, it be great to clear 500k even though its recieving a motor swap .

I live in NE PA, about an hour north of Allentown, and they are starting to put the emissions testing into place. Personally I dont see it as that big of a deal. Currently in the counties surrounding me, its basically a gas cap test and making sure all the equipment is in place and works. But my truck is registered down just North of Philadelphia, so it has to go through the actual tailpipe test. Which it passes with ease. And my last inspection only cost me about $55 with the coupon I got out of the paper. To pass emissions, your gas cap has to seal and any emissions equipment that came on your truck has to be there. Its amazing how many catalytic converters we sold at work in the past 3 weeks or so. So as long as all your equipment is there and works on your truck, you should be fine. Even in 86 there were some trucks that didnt come with catalytic converters.

also has the thing where the altimiter(sp) battery voltage thingy dips under acceleration but it doesnt hinder anything so i cant say its a problem.

Just so you know, the alternator voltage dropping under acceleration is a designed in feature to get you more power during acceleration by reducing the drag of the charging system. It clearly states this in the owner's manual.

Sweet! Glad to get some input on the emissions testing. Although my mechanic is very professional and on top of almost everything automotive, he seems to be in the dark about this as I am.

Overall I don't think its a big deal either it is just something more I have to spend money on and late winter is a bad time for me especially 04. I am relocating to Scranton PA to help expand the company I work for so I am out of any real money-making work till mid-April. With a new apt, security/uilities, etc. and my two DDs down plus my girls car is in the shop most of next week for tires, brakes, tune-up (Daewoo, enough said), we are a little broke right now. A new vehicle to phase out her car is really what we need. For the most part emissions are good IMO.

Once again thanks for all the great responces
Craig (sounding like a kiss a$$)
