Getting the Wheeling Fever
Finally installed the spacers. Elripster did a good job on the fabricating. I doubled up the nuts on the fasteners. I can hit both the upper and lower bumpstops with no problems. I has a friend do the alignment and we could not get the camber quite perfect(just outside of specs). This is without turning the torsion bars down at all. If you lowered it a little bit I am sure it would not be a problem. The one thing I did notice it the steering arms are at there max with this setup. Need to raise the steering arms on the knuckles to make them more horizontal. With a front locker a idler arm would get destroyed offroad. Overall very happy with them.

Looks good. I thought the travel seems a little "too" good until I see that you have Rancho A-arms. The Rancho arms should give you about 1.5" of lift by themselves, so with the spacers you should havea bout 3" of total lift assuming the torsion bars are in the stock setting. If you haven't already, you might try lowering the torsion bars and see how well it flexes. With the torsion bars lowered for a total lift of about 1.5" you have some very nice flex in the front end.

My only concern is that with 3" of total lift, you probably are putting your steering and CV joints beyond maximum angles. But turn the bars down and enjoy the flex!

I left the torsion bars cranked up to level it out with the rear chevys. The truck sits level now instead of 1.5" lower in front. The axles I don't have to worry about because I have the porsche CV's. The steering on the other hand looks to be a problem. The bottom pic has the truck sitting level. you can see the angle on the tie rod end. This is creating a vertical force on the arms instead of a horizontal one. If you could raise the steering arms on the knuckles, this setup would work killer.

Nice IFS flex...how have those Rancho upper A-arms held up for you. Do you have any alignment issues?

for your steering, i dunno, maybe try unbolting the steering arms and swap sides and turn them upside down!?

its wicked expensive ($1350) but one of the companies that makes long travel kits (ats or chaos) has a steering set up that looks VERY sweet.

i found it. here is how they describe it:
"$1,350.00
1986-2002 Toyota 4wd Custom chromoly and heim end steering assembly: This kit toughens your steering system. The kit comes complete with a completely fabricated idler arm with brass bushings and heim end, 2 tie rod couplers with heim ends, a new center link and new pitman arm. All components are made from chromoly and will work with our kit or your stock control arms. Please specify when ordering.
Special note: Although you do not have to run this steering with our control arms, for the punishing demands of off-roading we highly recommend it."

here is the link for the site linky
not really an option for most of us i would guess, but very sweet. they used to have a pic of it, but i don't know where it went.

do you think the rancho arms were worth the $$

I did think about swapping sides on the steering arms, but the taper would be upside down for the tierod ends. As far as the heim joint steering, That price is ridiculous. I might consider the idler arm from Total Chaos even though it to is a bit pricey. The Rancho arms I bought on E-bay for very little. Price wasn't a factor with me buying them. I would not have spent the money on the arms from Downey. I have about $700 dollars in the front suspension including the shafts.
I think the problem with the Rancho arms in the past has been people trying to get 3" of lift out of them. You can not crank alot of lift into them and get your truck properly aligned. I bought them not for the lift, but the added suspension travel. I have had them for quite a few years and they have held up fine.
