quick easy and cheap to change fuel filter. symptoms are like what you describe. i think it's on the inside of the frame rail under the driver's seat. can't hurt and may help. my experience is when the pump goes, it just won't start after shutting it down. they don't usually quit while it's running. sometimes you can get it restarted by giving the tank a big whack with a rubber hammer, but you'll only get one restart out of that method. also check the fuel regulator. if it goes bad you'll waste a lot of gas and it's easier to change than the pump (which is in the tank!)
