?? Is this "rosin core" solder the same as "lead free"??

Don't think so...most solders are (or used to be) mixtures of lead and tin, the rosin is the 'flux' that helps the solder flow into the connection. Since they've taken lead out of paint and gas, solder must have been next on the list.

The reason for specifying rosin core is that it's for electrical/electronic connections. Plumbing solder uses an acid flux, which, if used for electrical connections will corrode them over time.

Sorry to hear it's not going to be as easy as putting on a new connector! Good luck finding your part!

Jim,

Good news (Well, maybe)...

I think I've found the answer to your prayers, on a 1997 Passport... However, the vehicle is without wheels or suspension components, sitting with the frame almost flat on the ground, so getting to the EVAP system is gonna be a challenge.

I'm headed back out there today... Wish me luck! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/coolg.gif" alt="" />

Cheers! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Well, Jimà
ThereÆs Good News and Bad News.

The Good News is that they definitely have what you wantà

The Bad News is that it will be no sooner than next Thursday before I can make a return tripà and thatÆs assuming that youÆre willing to purchase the whole EVAP solenoid unit (with the much-coveted wire and connector plug included) for $25.

I was planning on calling them with your decision on Monday morning, but a thought just now occurred to meà

They may accept credit card payments over the phone (I forgot to ask), so it might be possible for you to contact them directly, and arrange payment and shipping.

..if not, IÆll gladly help you by working at it from this end.
