Don't think so...most solders are (or used to be) mixtures of lead and tin, the rosin is the 'flux' that helps the solder flow into the connection. Since they've taken lead out of paint and gas, solder must have been next on the list.

The reason for specifying rosin core is that it's for electrical/electronic connections. Plumbing solder uses an acid flux, which, if used for electrical connections will corrode them over time.

Sorry to hear it's not going to be as easy as putting on a new connector! Good luck finding your part!
