Well, I'm stumped. My truck just sprouted an oil leak, but it's coming out of a bolt hole in the oil pump(one of the mounting holes. And yes, there is a bolt in it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bird.gif" alt="" />) When I built the engine 10,000 mi. ago, the book I used for specs 'n stuff(like, where'd this come from and where's this go?) said to put sealant on the top oil pump mounting bolt. Should I have sealed them all? Anyway, it's coming from the 8:00 o'clock postion bolt. So, all you smart guys what do you think? Seriously want my thoughts on the situation? Get out the brake cleaner spray, pull the leaking bolt, clean it off, coat the bolt above the threads, reinstall. Problem solved. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

*Unless!!!! When you pull that bolt, make sure you clean the pump housing really good, inspect it for a possible crack in the direction of the gears. Since there is no oil pressure in the timing cover itself (other than the oil pump passages down low) it would literally have to be bathed in oil for it to come out. Cracked or distorted housing is a hell of alot more common that actual pump failure. Tomorrows Sunday...put on your Holy jeans and fix it! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> While we're on the subject of leaks.I was following the other post about a possible rear main leak.It was stated that the oil pan doesn't need a gasket,just some permatex form a gasket.I've been chasing a leak in the back of my 22re since I got my truck.I thought it was the rear main seal.Turned out to be 1 oil pan bolt leaking.Put some gray permatex around the washer area of the bolt and bingo the leak was gone.Darin,I think you're the one who said it,so thanks!later dudes! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
